If the money would be spent on the roads, I'm all for it. However, everyone knows that this will not happen. Years ago the PA Turnpike was a self supporting highway ( tolls went right back into the operating costs) and it was a GREAT highway. Then , it was decided to put the toll money in the general fund. The decay of the turnpike is ridiculous.
As far as BARTA is concerned, why do I support this with ANY of my taxes? Charge the patrons the needed fees. If it can't support itself, dump the whole thing. Any business that runs in the red forever would close, yet the taxpayers are expected to keep it afloat.

The proposed increase is very near sited, what isn't being taken into account is as we wean ourselves away from gasoline powered vehiches and use less due to fuel economy mandates there is no plan, then where does the money come from? The vehichles will still exist and the roadways will still need repairs but the tax increase will do us no good. Higher taxes again and again on less an less. I definately agree that cost control in our State and Country Governments must happen now or there may not be a later. It is not a Dem. or Rep. issue it is a Government issue that neither side is truely willing to tackle properly.

When Ridge was govener he rasied all the vehicle and license fees to pay for roadwork. And roads are still lousy. where is that money now? I guess with all the benefits state workers get they don't see or realize gas prices are to high and killing economic growth. Guess they need some more paid sick days rediculous pensions. They'll just go after raising this tax again when they need more benefit money.

I commute 50 miles one way to work, pay 100% of my own health insurance, and fund my own retirement. To pay more tax, ridiculous! I have a friend who works for that state and boo hoo's all day about not enough paid holidays and the measly $17 /hr she makes. But is quick to toss her paid healthcare and retirement your way. As far as road repairs, all you need to do is get a bulk load of levels and see if that helps. Definition of a paved road is a SMOOTH hard surface. The money would be used for everything but the hard sell we the tax payers are given.

I agree with Bob, the question is too general. The state's transportation budget is $3 Billion in debt as I understand it so how can they talk about a tax to fund new projects when they are in debt for the projects already completed or started? I know something needs to be done and if a tax increase that is much more specific in nature is called for then I might not object to it, but as generally stated I'm not.

Why put this on the TAX PAYERS , how about an overhaul in the SALARIES of the Government, we can save millions each year by not allowing them to RAPE the SYSTEM the way they do , everything that costs money comes from TAX PAYERS pockets soon we wont have ANY MONEY to be taxed on .

The question is too broad. Does it mean repairing/expanding roads, paying for a rail line from Reading to Philly or running a trolley from Reading to West Reading? Most people don't mind if the money is well spent, but recent proposals have been wasteful.
