When does a smartphone become a "phablet"?

Somebody above mentioned 'it's a phablet when it doesn't fit in a pocket. I agree. Unless I have cargo pants on, I generally find my Note 1 too large to sit down with in front pocket, and I have to slip it out of its case so it will fit in my lab coat breast pocket. So it's a phablet--or more simply, a BFP. I like that the new Note2 is a smidgen narrower and more pocket friendly. Other than that, best friggin' phone ever.

I think anything over 5 inches, 5 inches is great for a phone but anything bigger should be tablet.

I think to answer the survey, when you need to use both hands to send a text.

As for. Another name, I call them "Tablones". Phablet or Phoblet just sounds cheesy.

@Bennett Todd ("After using my N7 for a while, the Gnex feels like a toy, a barbie doll accessory.")
Your experience matches mine exactly! My next phone will likely be of the galaxy note form factor. Would be easier to use with my 3XL hands too.

Re: "phablet" name, how about instead using "BAP" (big a$$ phone)?

Once it doesn't fit in your front pocket, it's a phablet.

Note's ability to use the s pen make it great to "doodle" on your pictures. As an architecture/engineering student I find it quite useful I can work equations and instantly see my ideas come to life. Prior to this I used a Sony Ericsson p900 Symbian os. In conclusion anything over 5" is just a big ass phone

The last one I could use one handed was my Nexus One. My Galaxy Nexus is almost usable as a tablet, except my fingers are too big and my eyes too weak.
With a headset and grooveIP I hope my Nexus 7 will make a superior phone.

They're all slabs, the last interestingly different form factor was the flip phone, The RAZR line was sexy.

After using my N7 for a while, the Gnex feels like a toy, a barbie doll accessory.
