I do support the idea of women being allowed to serve in all capacities in the armed forces, after all if they can pass the training then obviously they're capable of doing the job. My only concern is actually the men, or more specifically what their reactions may be in a combat situation; would they take unnecessary risks or disobey orders in order to protect a woman in danger? Chivalry is still promoted in many demographics in this country and it can reach the point of being instinctive.

If a woman wants to serve her country under combat arms she ought not be denied the honor because of her gender. Anyone that doubts the ferocity of women fighters should take the time to read about the Night Witches. This was a group of soviet WW II pilots who served in all women aviation units. They were given outdated, under performing, ill equipped biplanes from WWI. They developed their own tactics and managed to instill the fear of God in front-line German units. Some of their pilots were so good that they were eventually provided more advanced fighters and went on to become Aces.
If they hadn't been Soviet women their story would be much better known. BUT, this is only one example of the many stories were women have shown they too can excel in combat. Vietnamese women fought against us and were just as tough as the men. Central and South American guerrillas used women fighters. The current President of Brazil is one of them. These women endured the same rigors, and treatment if caught, that the men did. Their cause may not have been popular with US but, we can't deny the fact they fought with courage.
I for one believe our women can be just as tough, dedicated and courageous. Besides with equal rights come equal responsibility and no American should be denied the opportunity to serve in combat if they so choose.
