Should the Boy Scouts drop their ban on homosexuals?

The basic problem with the Boy Scouts today is that the group has been taken over by homophobic right-wing religious groups who insist on dragging the organization into right-wing religious politics. Their intolerant policy denying gay scoutmasters and gay scouts participation in the organization fuels ignorant, stereotyped prejudices toward gay people. It suggests gay people are child predators and will harm children. It, also, suggests there is something evil about their sexual orientation and they can do something about it to fix it. None of this true. Based upon medical/mental health science, we know that homosexuality is normal, it is not a choice and one has nothing to fear from it. The behavior of the right-wing intolerant leaders is destroying the organization. The Boy Scouts need to get out of right-wing religious politics and get back to scouting.

Absolutely not. The Boy Scouts need to stand firm on keeping homosexual's away from their orginization. Unfortunately and realistically we live in a country that is rapidly sliding down into a cesspool of waste. We can't prevent the inevitable. These weirdo's who run the country are going to allow this weirdness to exsist even among our children. It's sad but true.

It should be the scout organization, the scout members, the scout sponsors and family members who make this decision. I'm sure they are being pressured with threatened law suits by outside interest groups and the federal government for political correctness and to forward their social and political goals. These actions could cost the scouts untold millions to defend, lose their tax exempt status, and cause dropped sponsorships. I fear the scouts will do what ever they are forced to do just to survive, albeit as a less positive organization. Sad!

The ban on homosexuals in leadership positions is based on the Scout's oath to be "morally straight" -- that is, following the precepts of every major religion where Scouting exists. It is not to abolish civil rights for gays -- as their advocates try to make it -- it is to protect boys being harmed by homosexual leaders, as has happened too much already. The Boy Scouts of America and most American churches are the last bastions of moral strength. I want them to keep it that way.
