How much of LOST was entirely subjective to the individual viewer?
All of it!
Definitely some parts you were "supposed" to get.
Most of the plot, but each character's overall destiny was left up to the viewer's opinion.
The church scene was NOT subjective at all, everything else was.
LOST was totally non-subjective and if you don't get that, you're wrong.
