What Should Be The Official State Rock Song of Massachusetts?

I thought that a song by Boston would have been one of the choices, I mean they are Boston. "Rock and Roll Band" would be great as the official state song! It's fun, it tells a story, I mean they even sing about dancing in the streets of Hyannis! I've been there and danced to the song in the streets of Hyannis! Hahaha i just think it'd be the most appropriate rock song for our state. :D

Dropkick Murphys "State of Massachusetts", Boston "Rock and Roll Band", or Standells "Dirty Water" should be included.

  • Kj - 11 years ago

Roadrunner is a horrible song so that a NO for me!!! I'm a huge Aerosmith fan and would love Dream On, but I think Muddy Water is also awesome!! I wish this was the biggest issue in my life (LOL).

  • AeroFanAddict - 11 years ago

I DONT CARE WHERE THE MEMBERS OF ^^A^^ WORE BORN..... THE FACT REMAINS, ROADRUNNER IS NOT INSPIRATIONAL.... DREAM ON IS..... YOU KNOW THEIR ARE A FEW PEOPLE WHO TOLD ME IF NOT FOR THAT SONG THEY WOULD OF COMMITTED SUICIDE BUT THE SONG GAVE THEM HOPE...... THATS WHAT THE STATE SONG SHOULD BE ABOUT, INSPIRATION, HOPE, FOLLOWING YOUR DREAMS AND MAKING THEM COME TRUE... THAT WE ONLY HAVE TODAY SO MAKE THE MOST OF IT...COME ON PEOPLE..THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

The Aerosmith founders came out of NH, got famous after relocating to Boston. Jonathan Richmond & the Mod lovers are the real Mass deal.

Lots of comments favoring Boston and the Standell's old hit, But there is so much more to
Massachusetts than Boston, which is in fact reviled by the rest of the state.
The BeeGee's "Massachusetts" , James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James", or even Warren Zevon's
variant of "Werewolves of London, with the James Taylor Berkshire reference, would be apt.

And, if you have to have Boston, how about Boston's "More Than A Feeling" a timeless rock classic.

Roadrunner sucks - the song should be Dirty Water..........ohhhhhhhhhhhohhhhh Boston you're my home!

  • Jim - 11 years ago

Please the The Modern Lovers suck. 208,000 hit please. Dream on!!!!!!!!!!! Or maybe Dirty Water

  • Fatman - 11 years ago

I say J Geils Band's , First I look At The Purse!!! We don't have the nickname Taxachusetts for nothing !!!!

  • Jim - 11 years ago

    Roadrunner #1
    Dirty Water #2
Dream On should not be in discussion! No relevance other than bands home state.
When you think of Roadrunner or Dirty Water you think of Massachusetts or Boston.
Dream On? I dunno, sniffing glue?

  • Ed - 11 years ago

I know the Bee Gees "disco" style is reviled on this station, but "Massachusetts" is the only song actually named for the state and is great to sing on your way home from the local gin mill after one too many 'gansetts

  • AeroFanAddict - 11 years ago

Warner Brothers withdrew support from the band, and, early in 1974, the original Modern Lovers split up.[2]

THEIR NOT EVEN AROUND ANYMORE , COME ON PEOPLE DO YOUR HOMEWORK

  • AeroFanAddict - 11 years ago

The Modern Lovers is the first album recorded by the Boston-based band The Modern Lovers. It was released on Beserkley Records in 1976, although the original nine tracks had been recorded in 1972 (or 1971 in the case of "Hospital"). Six of the original tracks were produced by John Cale. In 2003, the album was ranked number 381 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.[1]

SO WHERE IS THIS SONG ROADRUNNER????? AND THEIR ONLY HIT WAS NUMBER 381 OUT OF 500 ..... NO WONDER I NEVER HEARD OF THEM.... THEY SUCK

  • AeroFanAddict - 11 years ago

ITS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST PEOPLE: THE SONG IS INSPIRTATIONAL.................. WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT 128 AND STOP AND SHOP..... ITS NOT ABOUT THEM GETTING MORE RECOGNITION........WHAT IS INSPIRATIONAL ABOUT 128 AND STOP AND SHOP??? IF THEY MENTIONS MATTAPAN AND GANGS IN A SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE THAT>>>> THINK BEYOND THE WORDS AND THINK ABOUT THE MEANING OF THE WORDS.....

  • AeroFanAddict - 11 years ago

REALLY YOUR BASING YOUR VOTES ON 128 AND STOP AND SHOP!!!!!!!! WTF

  • AeroFanAddict - 11 years ago

JUST B/C A BAND MENTIONS BOSTON IN THEIR SONG DOESNT QUALIFY THEM!!! STEVEN SEX LIFE SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE.. WHAT OTHER BAND HAS EDERLY MEMBERS STILL TOURING ALL OVER THE WORLD???? FOR FANS!!!!! THEY ARE AN INSPIRATION... THEY HAVE OVER CAME SO MUCH IN THEIR LIVES.... DREAM ON MAY N OT MENTION BOSTON, BUT DONT JUST LISTEN TO THE LYRICS, ABSORB THEM AND HEAR THEM.... IF THATS NOT AN INSPIRATIONAL SONG (BY THE WAY WRITTEN BY STEVEN AT 17 YRS OLD) THEN I DONT WHAT IS..... HIS FATHER AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS HAD A BAND ALBEIT NOT ROCK.... THE WHOLE FAMILY HAS ROOTS HERE AND HAS CONTRIBUTED MUSIC....I MEAN SHOULD THE BAND "BOSTON" BE IN THE RUNNING BC THEIR BANDS NAME IS BOSTON??? COME ON THINK BEYOND YOUR PREDJUDICES AGAINST STEVEN... AND LOOK AT THE BIGGER MORE IMPORTANT MESSAGE........

  • Pam - 11 years ago

How about the song the Bee Gee's did. About Massachuesetts. Now thats a total classic. I'm sure theres a lot of people out there that love that song, and it would make an awesome state song.

  • AeroFanAddict - 11 years ago

AEROSMITH HAS EARNED THE RIGHT TO HAVE DREAM ON AS OUR STATE SONG.... ITS AN INSPIRATIONAL SONG... ALL THE BAND MEMBERS CONTRIBUTE TO LOCAL CHARITIES.... THEY PAY TAXES HERE.... THEY ALL KEEP HOMES HERE.......AND FRANKLY THECOMPETION SUCKS

  • Slim Shady - 11 years ago

Would Pete and Kevin come around if they knew that the Modern Lovers did a tune called the "Ice Cream Man"? It's a good thing Dunkin Donuts doesn't have their own theme song, otherwise this debate would be OVAH.

  • Slim Shady - 11 years ago

Adam, no we would not all be behind Aerosmith if it came up. J Geils is the definitive MA rock band. So are any of this morning crew actually natives? I have my doubts. And if you're not a native then you have no business voting.

  • ed marchesi - 11 years ago

road runner all the way. it has references to things and places around in and around boston.

  • allen - 11 years ago

I am thinking Billy Squire Stroke Me he is from mass also

  • RG - 11 years ago

On the lighter side of this survey. What about Highway to Hell based on the daily commute into town! :)

  • Joe - 11 years ago

Roadrunner's my choice, but I have no problem with Dirty Water. Aerosmith's Dream On is a great song but what does it have to do with Massachusetts?

  • Frank in Uxbridge - 11 years ago

hey Dream On is a great song but does Aerosmith really need more recognition? Its not even about Mass - its about a guy having an existential moment while looking in his mirror. Roadrunner on the other hand is an unabashed love song to Massachusetts, its got a great propulsive melody, features musicians who went on to other Boston bands, and doesn't get played on radio nearly as much as it should. WZLX is way off base here pushing for Dream On - they should stay out of it.

  • KC Ladybug - 11 years ago

OK kids, our state needs to have a song that will bridge generations a bit easier and work VERY well on promo adds directed at tourists! I think Arlo Guthrie's "Massachusetts" takes that hands-down!

  • Michael - 11 years ago

How about from the Woodstock album; " Give me an F...!" "Give me a U...!!

  • ches31 - 11 years ago

Boston more than a feeling is the clear choice.

  • Mary - 11 years ago

Please come to Biston--I mean if Smokin' and Dream On don't make it. Not exactly a classic rock song but appropriate anyhow.

  • Tony - 11 years ago

Massachusetts, by the Bee Gees........easy choice.

  • Adam - 11 years ago

Roadrunner is clearly the choice here. It's all about MA where Dream On, A fantastic song is in no way about MA.

We are picking a meaningful song about MA here, not the official State Rock Band. If we were nominating a band we'd all be behind Aerosmith.

  • Al - 11 years ago

"Roadrunner" all the way. As others have said, "Dream On" is not about Massachusetts and, while they're considered a Boston band, Steven Tyler is a native New Yorker.

  • MzAmar - 11 years ago

Aerosmith is great, but as any one from the Granite State will tell you, they're from New Hampshire, not Mass. Good luck to Roadrunner, a great song ABOUT the greatness of MA!

  • Xanna Don't - 11 years ago

"Dream On" is a great, classic song, but it's not exactly joyous. Jonathan Richman's "Roadrunner" all the way!

  • david - 11 years ago

    Dirty Water - no brainer

  • Dennis - 11 years ago

"I'm in love with Massachusetts, 128 when it's dark outside, gonna drive past the Stop & Shop with the radio on!" If you don't know the song, go look it up. It's the right rock song to represent this great state.

As a former WZLX DJ (for all of an hour thanks to a contest many years ago), I have to back Roadrunner, the song that is about Massachsetts. How can you not love a tune that references both Route 128 and Stop & Shop? And the song's about driving because we all know how fun the "T" is.

  • Gail - 11 years ago

Dream on should absolutely NOT be the song. Why? Roadrunner, at least, talks about Boston. I love Aerosmith, and we like to call them "our" band, but to even suggest it is just plain silly.
