I read, listen to and follow sex advice columnist Dan Savage's column, podcast, and twitter. Dan is gay and I pretty much consider him my shaman on all issues LBGT. He consistently "gay checks" people and has on multiple occasions been proven spot on that this minister is gay, or this politician is gay. It seems that when someone is just vehemently homophobic, just filled with and putting out hate that we get all Shakespearian and think thou doth protest to much. Anyway, it would seem to me, that if gay people say it's cool, then it's cool. Now I realize Dan Savage cant be representative all gay folk, but sometimes, a spade is indeed a spade.

So I agree with clout, it all depends on the person "Gay checking's" intentions. If they see someone who is fiery and struggling then giving them that out to come out could lead to some soul saving self realization. Being ones self is hard thing for the most privileged let alone someone outside of the generic standards. Realizing that you're not "normal" can eat up at you and folks wanna hang on to whatever "normalcy" they got so maybe just maybe having someone gently confirm suspicions you have in a gentle manner may not be too bad...But eff all that if folks is on their a-hole grind as there are a lot of folks whole roll like that! So counterproductive!
Bottom line if I suggest that you might be gay I'm trying to help 85.3% of folks may be jerks.

    Just sayin

Gay checking seems to be the new black checking.

If used too casually i'd say yes the person saying that is assuming that this is the worst thing they could say to the person they are trying to assault. However, I think there are some people who go extra hard in the paint against homosexuality because they are fighting a battle with it themselves. Those are the same type of people who claim that seeing gays or lesbians can corrupt others into being gay or lesbian, when they are really just thinking that because that is how it makes them feel. So I'm going to say it isn't insulting when applied to the right type of person and not said just out of spite.
