    Editor, The News:
Congress has failed the American people.
It is Congress' obligation to look out for the people of this country. It has failed miserably. Case in point, America's energy crisis.
President Bush has been pushing Congress to authorize drilling for more oil right here in America. He repeatedly has demanded that it stop blocking oil corporations from building new refineries.
America has not seen a new oil refinery in more than 30 years. In the same 30 years, the American population has grown by more than 30 million.
New York Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer says the answer is not drilling for more oil in America, but for Americans to cut consumption. That's well and good for a long-term goal, but the real reason Schumer doesn't want to drill for oil in America is that he is part of the wacko environmentalist special interests holding America hostage, including hypocrites such as Al Gore who waste more energy in one day than the average American uses in one year.
America should be building nuclear power plants. From 1979 to the present, France has built 55 nuclear power plants. Today the French are enjoying cheap, clean energy.
Koertz Glass & Paint, a Genesee County business, received a $10,000 utility bill. As a result, it went out of business. How many other companies across America are facing the same dilemma?
I don't feel sorry for the person driving the gas guzzling SUV. I feel sorry for the independent truckers out there paying almost $5.00 for diesel fuel.
Until Congress starts working for the American people instead of just for the special interests, America's energy crisis will just grow worse and worse.
