In theory it would be great. But the traffic situation is exponentially worse than it was 29 years ago and I can't imagine how much worse it will be 11 years from now. Let's get true city-wide rapid transit then revisit the issue.

It WORKED in 1984 even with all the trepidation it was going to see!

I'd love to see the Olympics back in LA again.
I think it would also be a great chance for economic and social change in the city. Suppose we are selected in the 2017 ballot as the 2024 hosts. That would give us (referring more to the higher echelon of LA officials) 7 years to make all the chances that people talk or think about and could be possible with the huge amounts of initial investment and the subsequent economic boost of having hundreds of thousands of tourists. We could implement a great public transport system that could fix some peak hour problems and further reduce our air pollution, redo sporting arenas, build a huge athletes village that after the games could be used as government-owed low cost accommodation (so yes the people near the bottom of the socio-economic ladder would gain). The city, especially the inner city would be able to greatly improve environmentally and aesthetically.
Food for thought LA.

LA has already had TWO Olympics! It's definitely time to give another city the chance (Chicago?) .

I love the Olympics but I know that they bring a lot of displacement for low income populations. The city needs to focus on economic development and job creation for the long run.
