I understand that the management has changed since I was there ten years ago, but during my visit this place was horribly, awfully managed by two mean people who lived in a fancy house right next to the grounds. They were completely incapable of managing the facility and reacted very poorly to requests for help and criticisms from the residents. They responded with lies and bizarre gossip.
There were also some incredibly creepy locals who worked there, an uber-macho art guy who was way too present for a residency program. Not only did he make everyone very uncomfortable, he also allegedly carried the resident complaints up to the managers.
But I understand management has changed and those horrible architecture people are gone, maybe give it a try.
