I was thinking of going to the "Beach Boys" show in Belfast on 20th May 2017, but now I find it is "The Mike Love and Brucie Johnson" show - not really!!!!!!

When will the "REAL" Beach Boys be here?? I will go and see them OK!! And these imposters are charging £50 a head - Cheek - .........

Gosh, I didn't know any of this controversary until just now. I was never a huge Beach Boys fan but I did enjoy the songs whenever I heard them on the radio. My daughter and I went to see Love and Mercy (I think that's the name of the movie) and it sparked my interest in the Beach Boys. I guess I didn't get the full picture from the movie. Well, it so happened they played last night in a town just an hour from me and being ignorant of their history, I went to see them expecting Brian Wilson to be there. Of course, I was extremely disappointed when he wasn't there. So now, this morning, I'm doing a bit of research on the Beach Boys and I'm learning quite a bit about Mike Love's character and boy do I feel really bad about spending money to see them if everything I'm reading is true. I did very much enjoy the show but if I had known what I know now, I would not have spent my money on it. I would love to see Brian Wilson perform!

Ideally, the following list would be my ideal Beach Boys group:

Brian Wilson: leader, chief songwriter, vocals, piano, bass guitar
    Mike Love: lyricist, vocals, saxophone
Al Jardine: vocals, songwriter, rhythm guitar
Bruce Johnston: vocals, songwriter, keyboards, bass guitar
David Marks: vocals, songwriter, lead guitar
Blondie Chaplin: vocals, songwriter, lead guitar, bass guitar
    Ricky Fataar: vocals, songwriter, drums

I think that this line-up could really kick some butt, both vocally and instrumentally.

Unfortunately, currently Mike has too much power (basically owning the Beach Boys name), which both Brian and Al allowed him to get control of.

If I had my way, the Beach Boys corporation would consist of the above 7 members, with the first 2 being full members, Al at about 95%, Bruce at about 75%, David at about 30%, and Blondie and Ricky each at about 15%.

As with anything, this could lead to squabbles upon squabbles upon squabbles (As if that doesn't happen now).

Anyhow, just an idea of mine.

It is very disappointing to see this situation. Aside from the fact that many "artists" display insensitivity to each other, their squabbles overflow onto the fans. Brian Wilson is the creative force behind most of their music. Mike Love is a hippocrite when he stands on stage & gushes about how he & his cousins always sang together, while he is orchestrating their removal. "No loyalty there!!!" I don't care about the size of the venue. I pay my dollars to see the creative force & as many of the surviving members who can perform. Sorry Mike...I will not be coming to see you & your band.
