I had the HTC HD2 and Evo. I honestly can't complain about them at all. The S3 was my first Samsung, but I think if I upgrade, I'll be returning to HTC.
I've had a Samsung S2 for two years and although it's lasted I've had to pop on a custom Rom as touchwiz treats people like they're 8 with it's bold primary colour icons. I was going to buy a Zperia but they didn't have this on my network so I was waiting to see if this would change and I'm glad I did as the HTC looks amazing and I when i saw it, I wanted it. Something that looks like an expensive piece of kit not just an MP3 player with a telephone connection.
I'm awaiting the arrival of my HTC one as I type and although I'm not entirely convinced about the camera I've got a perfectly good DSLR if I wanted to go David Bailey and take amazing shots. My phone camera is more likely to be used at a meal or night out with friends and I'm hoping the low light stuff works better than the washed out colours and blinding flash of many other phones.
Blinkfeed has had some bad press but I pop in and out of apps wanting that short bite of internet info

HTC Products Are Well Made. I've Never Been A Fan Of Samsung. I Did, However Just Get The Galaxy NOte 10.1. Maybe My Outlook On Them Will Change.
