When do you get things done?

I finished by bachelor's degree (in math) with a 5 yr old and an 8 yr old. It took me 10 years total, but the last 3-4 years were just a couple of math classes at a time, since I'd finished everything else by then. I did a tremendous amount of homework between 2 and 5 AM, since there were no interruptions then! Sometimes I'd go back to bed for a couple of hours, and sometimes I'd have enough work to do that I just stay until I could fit in an afternoon nap the next day.
Now that my kids are 10 and 13, I still sometimes struggle, but now it's more a matter of keeping them motivated to spend their time well when I'm not around. About a week and a half ago we started chorewars.com (free online game where you record the housework you do), and my life has gotten a lot easier. I still cook dinner most nights, but I really do only do dishes 1/4 of the time now, and I get more points from going through paperwork or paying bills or doing other stuff the kids don't do, and they get more points from stuff like tidying and vacuuming. I don't know how long it will last, but right now it's really nice to have so much less complaining.
One final thought: I've always said I don't want to wait for my house to be clean to live my life, and I'm very glad that I've stuck to that. At the same time, I appreciate the gradual progress I'm now making on the junk room (aka "office") and I absolutely LOVE not having to wash dishes before I can cook each night.

I do dishes at night, while my husband puts the kids to bed. Everything else gets done randomly throughout the day, as I see fit. Or....more likely...just doesn't get done. I also am guilty of ignoring my kids while I do things.
