The charm of sport is never the political engine behind its success or failure but the driving force of ordinary folks from the streets. We don't need VIPs to sit in FAM committee to decide whether what is best in country football sport arena. We really need people who have deep connection to the sport in order to develop, not irrelevant prominent figures in business suits and holding dato titles. This sport is people's game and not chess game for the elites. What we need is elite sport board members, not elite prominent politicians or royalties, to sit and dictate rules and procedures. Let's be realistic, do we want headmaster of a school to punish a student for displinary action or allow his own parent to do so?

  • Navin - 11 years ago

If FAM still insists on this rule, then the president and/or secretary better become the coach.

  • Atien Nadot - 11 years ago

FAM should be open not only to constructive comments by the coach but more importantly on the choice of name for Malaysian Football team to show maturity. This is in-line with 1-Malaysian spirit and we are all proud to be Malaysian.

  • Zaman - 11 years ago

Come on la FAM. The rules that you created are totally draconian. ..what kind of law is this ? It doesn't belong to the empowered Facebook age. What use is the management of FAM if you guys have been there for donkey's years, not performed but still choose to rule like this is still pre-independant Malaya. Also show some gratitude la for Dato K Rajagopal and how he's been able to do justice to our football. By the way, if you can't take criticism, please submit your resignation en bloc and let those who are not egoistic and arrogant to run the show.

  • Jeb - 11 years ago

In the interest of Malaysian football, FAM shold be open-minded, matured and professional when
Datuk K. Rajagopal commented on the issue. FAM should be thankful to Datuk K. Rajagopal as he, being the coach knows better. Punishing him will not bring our football any where.

  • Shadan Ibrahim - 11 years ago

Don't use Harimau Malaya. We Sarawakians and Sabahans feel slighted. Align with 1Malaysia Concept. We don't use Harimau Malaya for all other sports but we get full support from all Malaysian.

FAM should give full support to coach Rajagobal instead of punishing him. We had too many national coaches over the years being kicked out prematurely but when they become coaches in other countries, they're successful. Why?

We need players with quality and with big games temperament. Our players play like playing Futsal; they don't shoot when there's a chance. Our players like to dribble into the goalmouth instead of shooting on sight. We're not brutal like SuperMokh anymore.

  • Adibah - 11 years ago

The national coach was merely pointing out the facts. Accept it. He should be respected and commended for being honest with his work. It only shows that he cares. Should get rid of those who cannot accept the truth or constructive criticism instead. If you appoint someone but do not trust that person's judgement, than don't expect to achieve rewards. You should give him the authority, trust and power to guide the team to success - his way and should support him all the way. This country will never move forward and progress if you still do things the round-about way. Be straightforward and discuss issues with open minds.

  • Raj - 11 years ago

I suggest the formation of Malaysian Football Council - MFC. This body be run by committed professionals who love to see Malaysian football progress and supported financially by some rich companies. Purpose of this body is to implement a achievable target for Malaysian Football team to qualify for Asian Games, Olympics and World Cup. Not forgetting to improved the standard of Malaysian football team and uncover young local talents who can be groom to the likes of A. Arumugam, Santokh Singh, Soh Chin Aun and Mokhtar Dahari. Team Malaysia really needs new faces as our very own football heroes. We all know FAM is not a capable body with any sort of target or vision and we all know that we will never see our dream of seeing Malaysia team playing in World Cup final fulfilled under the current FAM management.
Come one come all, have a concerted support to make a fresh new beginning for Malaysian Football.

  • Ravi - 11 years ago

FAM leadership... If you concur with the coach ... I hope and pray you'll sit down with coach and clubs and define solutions and roadmap to fix this extremely long running issue. We are languishing in the netherworld of soccer. Dont ignore the coach's legitimate concern.

Now if you didnt concur ... Share your views. Love to see how you spin our poor results in Asian tournaments, let alone at World standards...

Time you accept criticism and act, rather than shush up genuine concern!!!

  • Dr.Sharma - 11 years ago

This is what going to happen if you have all the politicians and craps sitting in a sports association. These are people with ego and feel as if it is their territory. But hey....you are missing a point. Dumbful to note this is happening in Malaysia

  • Thurairaj - 11 years ago

After seeing today’s THE STAR front page, it’s best we the fans of Malaysian Football just “GIVE UP, LA” on Malaysian football. As long as people who don’t know how to manage or accept constructive criticism for improvement and betterment of the progress of Malaysian football in all aspect, than its best to say, “GIVE UP, LA”. When other national teams in this regions are already making tremendous progress and going up in World rankings, we are still talking about cannot saying anything or criticise the governing body. What I cannot understand is why the coach is still holding on to his job. It is better to just throw in the towel and walk out. It is very simple understanding, that there is no room for people who are managing the body and don’t know anything about football and how to manage. We will never ever see progress without qualified and experience management. We will never ever see our team qualify for the Asian Games, Olympics or even the World Cup if we still put hope on the people who are and have been in charge for donkey years, without much to show for, except the SEA games and Suzuki Cup. Are we just going to keep focussing our best just for these two tournaments only? Long gone are the days where Malaysia is one of ASIA’s BEST team. We are now just a number for any tournaments or shall I say a sparring team for the other regional national teams. Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand, be it Singapore and Indonesia are much improved nowadays. Look at our neighbour country where they have a target set to qualify for World Cup finals tournament. What about us? We are more concern on putting a gag order for openly criticizing. Learn to appreciate when you are criticized, as it is a way to understand your weakness and come up with counter actions to improve by working out new and better solutions, which can give improvements overall for football concern. Change comes from within so change now or never.
Can I also throw question: MAY I SUGGEST THAT WE HAVE ANOTHER FOOTBALL BODY FORMED PRIMARILY FOCUSSED ON MAKING OUR TEAM AS TOP 5 ASIA TEAMS?

  • Dr.Sharmra - 11 years ago

It is embarrassing to see a coach can't provide a feedback for the growth of the sport. In this case I am confident that Malaysian football will not grow with such an article in place. If you can't take criticism that there is no point for anyone to sit at the top. This is sports and this sports belongs to the people of Malaysia. Abolish all this article to safeguard the little napoleons and please get back to the reality.

  • Wj - 11 years ago

    Nuts!!

  • cyril - 11 years ago

If the president and the secretary general are allowed to comment...then let them run the team. The president should be the one who need to take the blame. You guys sitting high in the corridor of power in FAM....GO AND QUIT! Malaysian football had enough of this. WAKE UP FAM!!! YOU GUYS ARE A BUNCH OF LOONIES. Datuk RajaGopal...I salute you!

  • Mac - 11 years ago

As football is national affair, critics and opinion by officials should be in media for public interest. if not, why should the public pay for the ticket to cheer for the football?

I had stopped to cheer for my team in Malaysia League or Harimau Malaya since many years ago because I do not see the points to do that until FAM can follow east countries football management as good example if west is too far away.

The people who are being Article-88ed by FAM - Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Shahidan Kassim, Datuk Rajagobal all have one thing in common -- They are the ones who are actually doing good work for Malaysian football in FAM! And for that, they are punished. Tan Sri Annuar actually sidelined politics and UMNO to bring Kelantan football forward which he succeeded. When he wanted to replicate his success with the Malaysian national team, he's booted out! Why? It seems to me that some ppl in FAM are clinging on to their positions by booting out ppl who are actually doing work and getting results. PFSLJ. Presiden FAM sila letak jawatan!!!

  • JohnDole - 11 years ago

This is so primitive. What are the guys in FAM thinking? They have already lead the country's football team to the most deplorable state. All of the guys should be fired instead!

    Dikira Menderhaka Kalau Kritik
Bhai....

So..... tolong aaa.... tolong jangan kritik FAM.... tolong jangan komen FAM.... sebab mereka maksum..... hahahaha.... budus betul lar.... pening betul lar....

FAM should change their mentality mindset, not all bosses knows the right way of handling things.
The person who guarded the gate (the coach) always know better than the boss.
Go and ask your bosses whether they know your works well. i bet my life.

  • S Chandran - 11 years ago

As long as you have a bunch of egocentric individuals who are only interested in holding positions of power, all sports in this country will continue to decline. These Dato's, Dato's Seri's and Tan Sri's should be booted out.

  • Tan - 11 years ago

If you ain't play football or soccer before in your life, get the hell out of FAM. Sports arena ain't a place for politicians or incompetence dude who have selfish agenda nor experience. Let more credible and talented people head the body. To those who sit on the top, it is time for ye to step down and pass the baton to more qualified people. My 2cents says, you ain't deserve to seat in the governing body. Shame on all of you. Get out now while you still have dignity!

  • Kenneth Tang - 11 years ago

This farcical "three-ring circus act" is not restricted only to the FAM or football. It's symptomatic of Malaysian sports: officials who get into the game with the attitude that associations exist not for the purpose of developing or promoting the sport but for them to play "officials".

They either know nuts about the game or could have been involved for a while in the game (usually during the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth) but now act as if they're the be-all and end-all of the game. All the while, those who are truly in-the-know about the game are either subject to their "power plays" and supposed authority, hoodwinked into believing them, cowed into "submission" or just couldn't be bothered (because they know things will never change).

Even professionals who truly know and love the game and have a great passion to develop the game are subject to the whims and fancies and supposed (comic) "leadership" of these people.

These "three-ring-circus clowns" usually have some "pangkat" somewhere -- titles, riches, connections, etc. And these know-nothings are supposed to lead their sport to the pinnacle?

    Get real.

Many, if not most, Malaysian sport associations are inundated with these "power players". Malaysian sport will not get anywhere near the top (regardless of the sport) while this is going on (and it has been going on for decades)

    The situation needs to change.

Passionate, experienced, knowledgeable and empowered (with Voice) professionals need to be in-charge, not the "politicians", whose role, if any, should only be limited to advisory and/or patronage, not executive office.

    Just my opinion.

But what do I know, I'm just a (still passionate) ex sport coach ;-)

    Cheers!

  • Haris - 11 years ago

Dear FAM.. what is your plan for improvement if you don't allow feedback..especially the negative ones. Its the negative ones that can highlights the shortcomings. The mens in FAM are all matured enough to take a criticism in the face. By the way, don't ban me also. At least I pay for the ticket.

  • Telespphorus chin - 11 years ago

Personally i think we have a lot of good players and coach, But it all when down to drain because of politician involvement and decisions makers..Good players are often sidelined but the not so good one is selected by recommendation of this so called influential people! What a waste!

  • Dr.Raj - 11 years ago

A coach knows his players well and if he can't point out his boys weakness than who else? FAM with drachonian article 88 just want to cover up the weaknesses rather then working on to find a solution.
Overhaul FAM surely bring back the local football standard back on Mokhtar Dahari /Arumugam/Santokh Singh/Soh Chin Ann era in the 70's.

  • Syed - 11 years ago

FAM should be open to criticism. Criticism helps to build characters and innovate new ideas for a better Malaysian footballing future. Maybe the "OLD GUARDS" of FAM should decide to "Hang their boots" and let new players drive the future of football in Malaysia.

  • Victoria - 11 years ago

that is why our malaysian football has been going downhill.Do not like to hear criticism or opinion by others.
I use to follow our malaysian football during semi-pro season but not no more.

  • Rajan - 11 years ago

"Rajagopal, who has been nominated for AFF coach of the year award, is alleged to have made the comment at a post-match press conference after the national team suffered a 4-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in a friendly at the Shah Alam Stadium on March 17." -The star online.

Is the above reason the main reason on WHY the law needs to take place even on constructive and positive feedback so can see the depreciation or it's merely a coincident - GOD knows otherwise.

  • KM Yap - 11 years ago

This reflects what's currently happening in Malaysia. We have been putting our dignity so high so much so that constructive comments lamented on us are imposed with unnecessary punitive measures. This disposition has been and will be a threat to our NATIONAL SURVIVAL. Please move forward and take this comment positively. Strengthen and improve ourselves!

  • Mohd Reduan Sapian - 11 years ago

The biggest problem with our fotball is it is governed by those who has no interest at all about football. They take up the post mainly due to personal interest. Most of them probably never step on the pitch and play football. Then they want the rakyat to listen to their stupid advice on how they can manage our football.

Please FAM, we want new faces. Faces who are really sincere and committed to the game. Politicians, royalties, I think is not suitable for FAM roles. The job require someone who has good experience, passion and desire to develop the game.

  • Shuk - 11 years ago

All the head-honchoes at FAM is a bunch of pathethic leaders. Ask them if they know what is football before even ask them to kick the ball. Ex-national players who have been fighting for Malaysia in past-years must take their seats now.

  • Ryan - 11 years ago

Malaysian football standard will never improved if we still have this kind of mentality management handling the national football. Other countries which lack behind us during the 60's and 70's have surpassed us way way ahead. Look at Korea and Japan...they are playing in World Cup and can match European and South American countries...they have players in so many European leagues...where are we now? Our players go to Europe and have culture shock and come back within months..What a shame...I have stopped watching Malaysian leagues and following my state team for almost 15 years too. Better watch English Premier League than wasting time watching our lousy league. We can't even beat Palestine, Bangladesh...Nothing to shout when we won the AFC Suzuki Cup...cos our level is just within South East Asia. Don't even think of Asian Cup qualification. There will be no future for Malaysian football....

  • N Mohamad - 11 years ago

I stopped watching Malaysian football 15 years ago. I watch football for entertainment and hence quality is important. It is so frustrating watching the game played by our soccer teams compared to those international clubs and their national teams.

FAM should take responsibility !!!!! Instead, they chop the heads of those lamenting the state of football in Malaysia.

The leaders of FAM have been given "eternity" to make changes. Leave before our disgust become hatred.

  • Saiful - 11 years ago

Mengapa mesti tunggu 'ahli mencadangkan supaya mengkaji artikel 88'?

  • Hema - 11 years ago

I post this question to you FAM - Do our current Malaysian football team has any standard ? Answer us first - Over-Haul FAM....It's time to change....

  • Silvarajan Vallipuram - 11 years ago

If law cannot take constructive criticism then it's an attempt to hit a target by shooting with the law is simply draconian law which needs a change for the betterment of the sports.

  • robb wahab - 11 years ago

I have watched the purported comment that Rajagobal had made and he did not insult the institution body, but merely pointing out the fact that he has a problem in the striking department and it is caused by local clubs stressing on quick results and employing at least 1 striker in their fold as their main focal point of attack. IF FAM wants to fire Rajagobal due to poor performance of the national team, they should do it straight up rather than making themselves look foolish by creating a hoo-haa of a tiny issue to suspend him then subsequently replace him.

Putting the issue aside, regarding the article 88, I have watched a segment in TV recently comments from the FAM disciplinary board member says the problem is not resolved if people bring grouses to the public and it should only be brought through meetings. Well how many of those have been swept under the rug to avoid conflict in FAM. It's not as if FAM makes it public about their discussion/meetings/brainstorming sessions. Since football is still a public's game, discussion should also be made public. I would understand apprehending irresponsible comments about the association without proof but people who wants to change for the better is also apprehended.

lastly it was sad that some high ranking personnel that have their views published about the issue chose to take a safe route comment. it's a no brainer why the law will not be reviewed as they want their positions to be safe rather than making it better for the sports scene.

  • Maill - 11 years ago

FAM just run by pirates. Wait until rank dropped to 200 or more but they are still there.

  • KUHAN S - 11 years ago

In this modern age, constructive criticism is encouraged and appreciated. With the national league and team hilariously outgunned and outplayed at most times, the FAM is due for a wake up call and a thorough shake up. Are we that backward that we do not realize or see the decadence and immaturity projected by these jokers in FAM management. What the coach voiced out was the right sorry truth of Malaysian football at least for the past 3 decades. FAM face the facts, admit to the shortfalls, and for once the people in power try to find a proper solution to this problem. Rajagopal you are right, transparent and a role model. Keep the good fight going.

  • Elwin Tong - 11 years ago

it's ridiculous! shame on u FAM...Datuk K Rajagopal is just pointing out a problem, wat's wrong wif tat...as long as FAM is run by a incompetent team,we will never find another Towkay Soh chin aun,Mokhtar dahari,Santokh Singh or Arumugam the spiderman...

  • Vsjan - 11 years ago

If one lead the TEAM and be in the TEAM then that TEAM leader has ALL the right to say for the sake of the TEAM.Laws are Laws but it's also meant to be altered if it's abusing the implementation itself.

Off course ALL sayings and not above the LAW - but this one is a positive statement from the GENERAL to save the TEAM - so should be taken positively.

Unless one has gone to the press by himself to say something NEGATIVE - otherwise when said from the heart is sincere. We do not need Draconian Laws - but Laws which can show progress it it's word itself.

    Cheers.

  • Deric - 11 years ago

Well what can we expect? We all know Masian football is run (and will continue to be run) by a bunch of lousy politicians who don't know much about football management, and are probably UMNO cronnies looking to milk "cash" at any possible opportunity. Not keen to watch or bother about it as I would many years back. Nevertheless tough luck on Rajagopal though, I really do think he has more right than Sultan Ahmad Shah or the secretary guy to speak on our national football issue.

  • Bond Meinrad - 11 years ago

When ever I hear the national team is going to play against other team, I always dreaded to know the outcome because very often than not its always a disapointing one. Happy results are rare. I m not a football expert but when ever our national team suffer loses after loses we often blame the coach and players. Sure, players are the one performing on the field and the coach provide the game tactics and strategy but I firmly believe that the system and the people who manage and oversee the development of football (or the lack of it) i.e FAM should shoulder the blame too. I always doubt the sincerity of people who are helming FAM now in wanting to see our football going to greater height. If they say they are sincere, they would have left FAM long ago to give way to others who are better. What is needed is a total overhaul or reboot of FAM. I would support a new leadership in FAM even if they are young and inexperience. Perhaps, then we can see change happening. If not, then Malaysian's football will be doom.

  • Michael N. - 11 years ago

No one's indispensable; I've lived the era of Mokh, the towkay and his cohort. I've also lived in the company of the then FAM. Listen you present indispensables its time for 'Vaya condios.'

  • Doni - 11 years ago

If FAM cant take an opinion, dont expect Malaysian football will improve. There are lots of experience people in Malaysia who witness and involved in the development of football in europe, but we wasted it just because we cant suggest anything. Its a talent wasted.

  • Cabreil Eiz - 11 years ago

As long as Malaysian football is NOT left alone to the professionals to manage it, Malaysia will never even get to touch the 100 line world ranking. Get royals and politicians out of Malaysian football. They had been the main cause of the downfall, since the mid-80's.

  • vincent chong - 11 years ago

Should have an independant committee to look after the coach. It's all politic, maitaining faces does not work. If they are paid for the jobs, worst still. Scrap all politician and members who are not themselves a sportmen or women.

  • Cabreil Eiz - 11 years ago

As long as Malaysian football is left alone to the professional to manage it, Malaysia will never even get to touch the 100 line world ranking. Get royals and politicians out of Malaysian football. They had been the main cause of the downfall, since the mid-80's.

  • Donny Poon - 11 years ago

National football team will never see any progress if no drastic action is taken to overhaul FAM. Why penalised the coach for something which is seriously true.

  • G.L.Tan - 11 years ago

Neither keeping, tweaking, nor kicking the rule will have a significant impact to the standard of Malaysia football level. Over the past years, the standard continue sliding down . What need to change is FAM committee structure and transformed by new face with new idea, professionally. Old face must have a gut to accept their failure, not being arrogant and autocratic. Why have article 88! unless you do not want to hear comments from the Fan. Remember the fan has the equate right as the committee. Remember you are here to produce result otherwise please move aside including everyone. Please allow others to have a chance to run the show. Comments must always be welcome.

  • Dan - 11 years ago

With all the comments posted, it clearly illustrated how a bunch of incompetence people helm the FAM think and manage the country football. It is utterly shameful and hopeless to see these people still around.

  • Raffie - 11 years ago

After all this year, all we hear just a problem. There is no end of this chapter or solution for this mess. Article 88 should be abolished long ago. Malaysia has been humiliated in the world soccer arena. Soccer is not a just a game, and it is not a political tool for someone to play with.

It's a shame, long ago Malaysia being feared by Korea and Japan. Now, pathetic. We have a good player and just need constructive and supportive management with vibrant ideas to improve players skills etc. Now I am curious about FAM reaction and their action.

  • NAGESWARAN SUBRAMANIAM - 11 years ago

i believe the article 88 or 8.8 needs to go. Yes there must be a rule in place but it seems u critic u get 88. The pool of players r not good that is the bottom line . Scouts should be looking for players from our kampung, estate, new towns and all the way deep in rumah panjang in sabah and sarawak.I know these players would beat any local team any time given time .Sports school ? Yawn .Yes our national players are trying their best hats off to them but u are only great in local regional tournament.sea games gold forget about it. we need to be thinking further up Asian cup glory and world cup . Do we even have a proper tounament in place. remember Merdeka cup our very own tournament, pls dont invite clubs invite proper national teams like japan, korea ,iran, australia ,although we might lose yet we would learn and beat them in the near future. And playing field in our stadium is more worst than my playing field. Oops hope i don't get the "88". Malaysian Tiger will roar again...

  • The Truth - MALAYSIAN - 11 years ago

I would like to say volumes but judge for yourself on all the changes that has happen over the last 50+ years in various areas. Now just look at sports, how it has deteriorated, a shame...we have the no see, no hear, no talk attitude all round...its monkeys running organisations and association. When can we have another Mokhtar in soccer or Francis in hockey....SHAME to you FAM.

  • TAL - 11 years ago

Article 88 reminds me of how you administer a country like BURMA!!!! Managed by a bunch of loonies and apple polishers....Get real please......get out of your rut BY getting out of your jobs..... it is obvious you are a bunch of incompetent imbeciles....starting from the President.

  • John - 11 years ago

I am very sad to watch our beloved football team continue to falter in all aspects. We need to put innovation into the Team. How!!! To start, we need a fresh FAM team that make decision based on sport & betterment for football. No more politicians & royalties in it unless they were great sportsmen themselves. Please bring back the glory day. We truly miss it.

  • Farris Daniel - 11 years ago

This matter has been going on for years. Yes, there are some good reasons why the Article 88 should stay but in this case, i believe the coach should be allowed to have a word or two about the team. FAM shouldn't be too sensitive especially when it comes to the person who manage the team that speaks. What should be done now is a total overhaul. Both, FAM and the team. Managerial and on field. If any means necessary for the board/team to be refreshed, they should. People are counting on them. Such a waste when they cry for support throughout the nation but ends up creating foul. People are starting to get frustrated and loses hope to the national team with this kind of politic. What happened, would not be any good for the team. Not with this clouded air, no. The ranking is just an absolute disgrace, the tactics are being well-read already but the worst of all, the board is not helping at all in order to sort this out. Somebody please, do something. I'm ashamed that our national team is depleting in form & rank. We could've been a glorious team if it wasn't because of these child's play. Think about the future of the sport. Think about the youths that would fill in the shoes.. make us proud, make Mokhtar Dahari proud. I love my country, I love football, I love Harimau Malaya. Please don't destroy our hopes. It's just to sad to watch.

  • Gerard Sta Maria - 11 years ago

Clearly the issue rest with incompetent officials hell-bent on staying past their time for personal agendas. Regrettably there is no shame in perennial failure and the same people at the top of the food chain continue to make poor judgement. They are so hardened it would take more than a tsunami to dislodge them, therefore dear Malaysian football fans brace yourselves for more excuses

  • Nordin - 11 years ago

Neither keeping, tweaking, nor kicking the rule will have signifcant impact to the standard of Malaysia football level. Over the past almost 20 years, the standard continue sliding down hill. What need to change is FAM to be run and tranformed by new face with new idea, professionally. Old face must have a gut to accept their failure, not being arrogant and authocratic. What a stupid article 88!

  • CH Lim - 11 years ago

Well, Malaysia has just dropped another 5 rank in the latest FIFA World Football Ranking. We are now at 168 out of 207! Yeehay, we are still above 39 countries!! That's what the bunch of old apple polish, self centered, power corrupt officials at FAM consoling themselves. High time for a "long-overdue-badly-needed" change, and the fish always starts to rod from its head.
