Defensive Driving is a featured presentation at the April meetings of our national field staff population. This includes a distracted driving refresher module that reviews our fleet policy prohibiting the use of any wireless communication device (among other matters) along with a discussion on physical, visual and cognitive distractions. The presentation draws on best practices gleaned from around the world and presented as tips or techniques to make the task of driving easier to complete safely while keeping our employees well informed and motivated to safely complete each and every trip they take, one at a time.

CIK regularly conducts "safe driver training" covering the obvious distractions such as, the dangers of talking and texting while behind the wheel, and not paying attention to what is out ahead or around your vehicle. We have a zero tolerance for distracted driving, no talking, texting, or any other distracted driving is allowed. At every quarterly meeting we invite law enforcement, usually a traffic division officer, to speak to our employees about distracted driving. Officer Brian Pennings of the California Highway Patrol El Cajon Division has a presentation on "The Dangers of Distracted Driving". It is an excellent presentation. Officer Pennings passion for driving safety and compassion for the public is apparent during his presentation. If you have the desire to influence your fleets driving habits, contact the C.H.P.'s El Cajon Division and speak to Officer Brian Pennings. I promise you, it will be a life altering experience.
