Greg,
While I may not like some of the Longmont CC, I would take them over Hickenlooper any day. He his a sellout to the gas and oil industry and needs to be reminded he works for us and not the other way around.

Hey Bill, let's take a look at a local city council. Erie citizens & city council have been screaming that all new oil wells must be at least 500 ft from the nearest home & 1,000 feet from schools. New Summerfield development would only be built and annexed into Erie if Erie went by current state laws for spacing of oil wells. Erie demanded existing wells be 500 feet from new homes, so developer pulled the plug on being annexed into Erie. That would have cost the city $86 million in tax revenues. Erie did an about face and now only expects a few hundred feet from existing oil wells, so they could annex Summerfield. So much for you idea on local city councils watching out for human health. I hear oil companies are greedy-like cities are not!

Bill, as a "single person in a single town in America," I would like to state that I wholeheartedly agree with regulation by the state. The state of Colorado has regulated oil & gas drilling effectively for nearly 100 years. It has kept up with the new technologies of the industry, and Colorado has some of the most stringent regulations in the nation. Can you honestly say that the City of Longmont (or any city in Colorado) will be equipped well enough to regulate oil & gas development? And by regulate, I do not mean ban. Regulate. As in, allow for responsible extraction of minerals. Not taking away the owner's right to access their minerals. By mineral owner, I also do not mean oil & gas companies. I mean Joe Schmoe, or my grandfather, or any other mineral owner who depends on the production of their oil & gas for paying their bills each month. The cities of Colorado do not have the right to take away what a person owns. I apologize for the lengthy comment - but please read and try to understand my point.

Yes Bill, it must be impossible for anyone to have an opinion different from yours.

I call BS on this. Someone put a call out to their internet conies to pump up the 'state' preference. I don't know a single person in a single town in America that would cede pretty much anything to the State over their own town's city council. It's just stupid.
