Hugh Campbell played in the early 1960s. He was outstanding. He was a year ahead of me in high school. I had a good throwing arm, but could not play football due to a knee injury. I would throw passes for Hugh until my arm hurt. What made him exceptional was his ability to fake people out of their shorts. He could run full steam straight at you, and would zag when you thought he was going to zig. He also excelled at baseball and basketball. He was "too slow" for U.S. football, but became a national football hero in Canada.

A memorable game was the East West Shrine game held at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, about 1963 or so. It was raining like a cow urinating on a flat rock. The playing field was so muddy, most players had their numbers covered with mud. If my memory serves me, Hugh caught two or three touchdown passes during that game, to help the West win.
