He didn't do anything wrong, so why apologize. He didn't say, "DAMN, LOOK AT THEM TITTIES!" (Dave Chappelle voice), he remarked humorously that she was an attractive woman. By apologizing, he's giving credence to those who would take him to task for everything he says and does. Sure, I understand why he apologized, but in doing so, he fed the haters and gave the story another news cycle.
