I don't like that there are only two opposing options!! I see the answer as a "Yes, and" not an "either, or". Maybe the answer is to be gently aggressive. Or aggressively gentle. Or sometimes VERY aggressive but then gentle with ourselves afterwards. Like take a bath or something. Or make Steve take a bath and watch Battlestar Galactica. It's all very confusing.
