Left atrium is thick walled resists dilatation .

Left atrium acts simply as a transit chamber .

The right pulmonary veins are oriented towards ASD and hence the blood streams into RA directly .

LA can indeed enlarge in small ASDs

The RA enlarges because the LA pressure is greater and the shunt is from L to R. This causes a volume overload, thus causing the RA to enlarge. This is what I think
