They traded him once and got garbage in return. If you trade a Cliff Lee you need immediate major league talent in return! Multiple talented prospects or young players. Maybe someone should tell Ruben that.

WIP could raise its journalistic credibility bar by avoiding this sort of media-generated "story". The basis for the whole discussion and poll is comments made by two pundits during interviews with a WIP host. In other words, it's speculating about speculation. This is the media equivalent of Wall Street selling overvalued derivatives.

Maybe what's closer to being real news is the 4-1 preference in the poll for keeping Lee on the team. It shows that we Phillies fans not only disagree with Charlie-hating doomsayers like Cataldi who have already written off the season, but we also want Lee on the team because he is a class act, a fierce competitor and, incidentally, the best pitcher on the team.

I continue to care about this Phillies' season. With regard to Lee, I want to see whether his determination and effectiveness can help inspire the team to rise to the occasion and play a second half that gets them into and maybe through the playoffs. Injuries to Ruiz, Adams, Utley and even Halladay could have a silver lining if the team can get and stay above .500 without them and if they each can come back from their time off to finish the season strong with less wear and tear for having had the DL breaks.
