“The Voice” star Adam Levine gets caught on a hot mic saying “I hate this country” – should he be fired?

Adam Levine is a passionate coach and artist who sees the true artistic talent in each one of his team members. The problem lies with the way in which votes are cast. Instead of a one person one vote methodology, it is a one person with multiple votes system. While I feel the comment was in very poor taste and smacks of being a poor loser. he shouldn't be fired. He's a great coach and I am sure he regrets having made the comment. He does, however, owe an apology.

Everyone needs to calm down and stop screaming "fire" him/her whenever some makes a comment they don't like. GET OVER IT!!!!!! Free speech: you can despise what someone says but in THIS country (if you want it to remain a free country) you should stand up for that person's RIGHT to speak his/her opinion.

While not necessarily being a fan of Maroon Five , I have come to truly respect and appreciate Adam and how seriously he takes his role as mentor on The Voice. I also appreciate how he encourages ALL of the contestants and not just his team. If you watched him this season you would know that his comment was based on America's vote for the contestants on his team not how he truly feels about this country. After the results show, I was disappointed with how the country voted as well BUT I love my country. I believe Adam does to.

  • Pam - 11 years ago

I think he was caught up in a moment and he wanted his team to win. America was voting and that is what he was referring to not that he hates America the good old USA. Everyone says things that they don't literately me. People on TV say things they don't mean but some people get offended and here we are. He really loves his team and the teams bosses get into arguments to make the show interesting.

  • Cindy - 11 years ago

He should not be fired, he didn't mean it, in that way! Stick to the other
important stuff going on in DC.

  • Ken - 11 years ago

Yes, He should be fired and if he hates this country then HE SHOULD LEAVE....I am a VET and would DIE for my COUNTRY....He should pick up a post and join a tour and see what Sacrificed. I take GREAT OFFENSE as a VET and for all the VETS out there who are FIGHTING FOR THIS COUNTRY he hates...So, If you hate this country GET OUT.

  • Darla Rocovits - 11 years ago

Media is blowing this way out of proportion. No way should he be fired!

  • Barbara - 11 years ago

I am the first one to get upset at celebrities bashing our country. However, I truly believe Adam was voicing frustration at the way America voted, not at America. Let's not make the same mistake liberal's make, grinding someone into the ground for offhand comments that are not politically correct. He wasn't dissing the country, he was dissing the vote.

Hey Adam, like many rock stars I have personally known in my life (as early as they were late teenagers) they had one thing in common and that is they are all immature in their minds and and with notoriety comes a platform to open their mouths without thinking. Just because you have a gift to write a piece of music doesn't mean your frontal lobe has matured. I think you should go join some other America hating group or maybe go to Boston, stand on Boylston Street and say what you claimed and then go move to a country that also hates America. Did you ever serve, did you join up? How 'bout joining the Marines now to show you love this country.

  • Helen - 11 years ago

Of course he shouldn't be fired!! He was referring to the country voting, not the country itself!! Wise up!! So much talent, it is hard to lose someone, they all deserve to win!

  • Cathy - 11 years ago

Of course he shouldn't be fired. How many of you who voted "yes" have ever said something in the heat of the moment (especially an emotionally laden moment), and then regretted it? I heard him say it and immediately thought, "I've hated the way America voted certain contestants off other singing competition shows too". Did I really mean I hated my country? Of course not! I understand his disappointment and bet he's sorry for the poor choice of words when venting that disappointment. Let's concentrate on all of those other people (most of them in Washington) who really need to lose their jobs.

  • Brent - 11 years ago

He said this because he hated the American vote on this competition. I think Adam adds a lot to The Voice and he is a good American. There are a lot of Americans that should lose their jobs because of their stance on America. Leave Adam alone. Adam does not hate America. He just hated the American vote on this competition. He thought their votes were wrong.

This supposed slip of the tongue? Most people who say this sort of thing while frustrated was all ready use to saying I hate this Country! If your in the lime light - learn to curb your mouth! This is our Country! NO Excuse! That's part of the problem with America Today! Everyone excuses everyone else's actions!

  • Kim - 11 years ago

Incredible amount of talent on The Voice this year, I was surprised at the vote and even I blurted out, "What! Are you kidding me?" while watching the show. Adam Levine has invested a lot of time and talent mentoring these individuals and was merely surprised how the country voted it was merely a shocked reaction on his part.

  • Lori jones - 11 years ago

Adam was voicing frustration on how America voted. He was anxious over the results. If he really did hate this country he should be more careful on who he votes for in the future.

  • Kim - 11 years ago

RIDICULOUS! Find some real news to talk about! Never liked Fox news & never will. You obviously know nothing about Adam Levine!

  • Kellie - 11 years ago

This supposed slip of the tongue? Most people who say this sort of thing while frustrated was all ready use to saying I hate this Country! If your in the lime light - learn to curb your mouth! This is our Country! NO Excuse!

  • Joann - 11 years ago

OH! No! an american said something that some felt was not proper so lets all jump on the wagon and run him out of town! Whats wrong with people. I am a republican and was not offended by his statement, I took it for what it was. DO Not fire him, people lighten up.

  • Deirdre Martin - 11 years ago

You people seriously need to get a grip if you think a comment made out of frustration that Adam made to himself warrants him being fired. Maybe the same scrutiny should be given to members of our government who are trying to change our historically free market capitalist God fearing society into a socialist godless destructive one. They truly hate this country and the American Dream!

  • Madison - 11 years ago

Why is this news? He made a mistake, and he already released a statement apologizing. Can't everyone just move on and leave him alone? It's something he said in the heat of the moment, he was frustrated and he made a mistake but he shouldn't be fired. We all make mistakes.

  • Glenda Cox - 11 years ago

This is a stupid question, and exactly why everybody thinks Republicans are unreasonable. The man was clearly stressed. Let silly things go. There are too many serious issues we need to be addressing.

  • dave - 11 years ago

Clearly, another unfortunate case of very bad judgement. I WAS an Adam Levine fan. However, it is a completely unacceptable for an entertainer who became wealth because of our country to make the statement that they "hate this country". What a hypocrite! Adam, a significant dose of very public community service is in order to restore my confidence in you.

  • Fire Obama - 11 years ago

I'm a hardcore conservative, a right wing-nut if you will. I love Fox News. But frankly, I think it's beyond stupid that Fox News is politicizing what Adam Levine said. He was frustrated and vented by letting a few stupid words slip in the heat of the moment. His explanation was good enough for me. Just report the damn news and stop trying to politicize every stupid little thing that a Hollywood celeb says. You're making conservatives look as dumb.

  • Catherine - 11 years ago

Well, when you are in the public eye you should be very careful about what you say especially when you are wearing a mic. He is still an arrogant idiot.

  • Tom - 11 years ago

As a strong constitutional conservative, Tea Party and 912er, I think he should be given a pass. I was watching the show myself. I would have never said that. That being said I was shocked and think I said to myself, gee whiz, I can't believe that. I am sure Adam is a lib but no one likes to lose and he worked many hard hours with those candidates and the one was in most peoples opinion was a shoe in for a top 2 or 3. He made a terrible mistake out of frustration. Forgiveness is a virtue...

  • Kim - 11 years ago

He made a stupid comment in the hear of a moment. He's super competitive on the show. Whatever happened to free speech in this country. If you don't like what he said don't go to his concerts or buy his music, but fired him I don't think so.

  • Shirley - 11 years ago

Stars get fame from us, I think stars believe we are the little people. If a star in the USA wants fame he or she should demonstrate respect and love of country . The country is all us little people and we shouldn't support arrogance, an attitude of disgust for the very source of his or her fame and worst of all, their fortunes.

  • carol Hampton - 11 years ago

We all say stupid stuff..doesn't mean we should lose our job. I bet he is more careful in the future.

  • Sharon Williams - 11 years ago

If the people of this country keep Attorney General Eric Holder and fire Adam Levine, I hate this country.

  • Joy - 11 years ago

Freedom of speech. I really don't think he meant it literally. Fox should have let this go. Ridiculous that this is considered news!

  • Laure Coakley - 11 years ago

You have elected officials lying by omission and getting by with most of it, but want to have an ENTERTAINER fired for off-hand - not even off colored- comment we have all made more times than we can count? Would it have been okay if he sang it and added 'mo fo'? Just asking...

  • Mickie Johnson - 11 years ago

It was a pin-headed thing to say. It didn't represent him or his team well, but the bottom line is if the voting public preferred the other performances more that is how the show works. America votes. Chris Daughtry was voted off AI and went on to a huge career in spite of it. Grow up Adam. Apologize and move on.

  • Lynn - 11 years ago

I agree he should have been more careful...but it was a careless mistake. I dont believe he really hates his country, he just hated the way they voted for his artists. Im sure and hope he has learned a lesson but to fire him...we all make stupid mistakes in our life.., this one was his. We all need mercy at times.

  • Margaret - 11 years ago

He was frustrated and meant that he hated the way the country voted. We all say things that come out incorrectly.

  • Cathy - 11 years ago

Come on! The judges on the show get very invested in their team members. Adam started the night with 3 members and ended up with one. He was frustrated to watch that happen. He doesn't hate the USA. He hated the way the vote went. Give the man a break!

  • Boyce - 11 years ago

No way he should be fired. His political leanings do not matter in this instance. He is a competitor and hates losing. This is one conservative that feels bad for him. It was an untimely, emotional error on his part.

  • Cindy - 11 years ago

Terrible, unpatriotic thing to say. I have no respect for him now. However, I don't see how it should affect holding the position of judge on The Voice. It is a free country we live in, and he is allowed to say that.

  • Burnetta Jarman - 11 years ago

He clearly doesn't mean he hates this country. He means he doesn't like the way American fans voted on the Voice.

  • Pat - 11 years ago

Rather than just fire him, send him to another country. Let it be his choice, just not the USA. We have entirely too many of his kind here already. The like to enjoy the perks, but spout off. SEND HIM TO ANOTHER COUNTRY!!!!!!

  • Patrice prest - 11 years ago

are you kidding he was referring to the voting public for the show and his two singers voted off were two of the best. Adam is great and really gets involved with his coaching. This has nothing to do with the country as a whole.get a grip people.

  • Jerry - 11 years ago

He thinks like the Hollywood "elite". Why should America pay any attention to these idiots? Stick to acting or singing or whatever it is you do in THIS country that brings you MILLIONS and a very comfortable life. Respect it assholes!

  • Patty - 11 years ago

He was just using an expression. You people have to stop tasking things so literally. This should be a non-issue after his explanation.

  • Robin - 11 years ago

He wouldn't have said it if he didn't mean it but he likes the money he earns and the freedoms this country provides him.

  • Linda Harrison - 11 years ago

Firing Adam for that comment is ridiculous. Anyone who has invested a lot of time and effort in to a project understands the frustration that he must have felt seeing two of his contestants voted off at the same time. He clearly was just upset. Give him a break!

  • Elaine Karnes - 11 years ago

Sometimes I say - "Don't you just love this country", but sometimes I mean it another way. But really I believe this country is simply the BEST! At first I thought fire him. But I hope he didn't mean it the way it came out.

  • Natalie - 11 years ago

Why should this question even be asked!? No he should not be fired! What happened to freedom of speech and the first amendment? Our own president lies to us everyday and allows the ambassador to be murdered, but we did not fire him! And for one man saying out of being stressed or just just being sarcastic, what happened to America?

  • Leonard Solie - 11 years ago

Every last one of you reading this post has said something in the past out of frustration that you didn't mean, it's important to judge people by the actions and not their words. He is all American, poor choice of words highly regretted.

  • Bruno J. Martillotti - 11 years ago

Fire him? Why? For practicing free speech? For saying something you disagree with? To coin a phrase: this is still America, isn't it?

  • SHERRY PAGE - 11 years ago

I THINK PEOPLE SAY THINGS THEY DON'T MEAN... LIKE I'M GOING TO KILL YOU.... JUST A WAY TO VENT., WE ALL DO IT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.... HE'S HUMAN

  • Kim - 11 years ago

Really... get a life people... clearly he just meant he hated the vote... stop over reacting! If you want to stress stress about a president who says he loves the country but investigates journalists
