I am very proud of Sarah for making the effort to help increase awareness and vaccine uptake. There's no better thing you can do for your family than to ensure they won't get these nasty diseases.

This is not a choice of equal weight, one choice is far better than the other, to the point where it's not really even a choice (if you have any sense) - and that's the choice to do the right thing and get you and your kids vaccinated.

The percentage of people in this poll of people whose whole family is vaccinated is low enough to allow scourges like measles to make a come-back. Get with it folks. Vaccinate for your children's sake and for the sake of everyone with whom they come into contact.

Parents who refuse to vaccinate their children and are lucky enough to avoid the diseases do so because there is a responsible, vaccinated majority that prevents the diseases from spreading.

My mother-in-law contracted polio as a young adult before the vaccine was developed. It affected every part of her life, and came back as post-polio syndrome later in her life. She died three years ago after a lifetime of pain, limitations, hospitalizations and expensive treatment. Young parents who live in an age where most childhood diseases aren't common forget the reason the vaccines were developed in the first place. These diseases (measles, mumps, rubella, polio, etc.) carry the risk of death or severe physical problems that last a lifetime. Ms. Gellar is absolutely right--get your children and yourself vaccinated today!
