Tommy Vee you are an idiot, you obviously did not listened to the floods solo, it's not one of dimes more "shred" style solos Floods is way better constructed and it sounds better too, doesnt mean i hate evh, evh is awesome but floods is the better solo of the two.

for the people that don't get the "dime craze", yes eddie is a big part of starting the solo thing or whatever you want to call it. but when you listen to floods its all about heart and feeling. you can tell that it has feeling and a bluesy feeling to it. yes dime plays fast, (and personally I like that as much as a good rock song) but dime just takes eddies playing to a whole new level

I agree. Apple and oranges. Eddie started a trend and others followed. Shredding is the new boring for me.

I've been reading this magazine since 1984, and for once I am baffled by a vote status. EVH's solo is better composed, more musical, more driven, more artistic and matches yet drives the tempo of the song. I listen to "Floods" and wonder how much longer I have to endure it.
I've never gotten the Pantera and/or Dime craze - his stuff just all sounds like super-fast modal scales and pinch harmonics. If Eddie doesn't win this one hands-down...something is not right in the cosmos.
I guess there are two kinds of rock fans: those who just want to party and have a good time, and those who want to mosh and put Confederate flags on everything.

I can't vote here. These were a different generation of players that both shaped music. Also, Dime loved Van Halen. It was a huge inspiration for his music. The guitar work is amazing in both cases! How dare you make me try and choose between amazing works of art :-)
