Would you live on a street named 'Dethridge'?

My Grandfather was a quiet, reserved man who certainly deserves recognition by the city he served for so many years. Looking at the wall above my desk, I see a framed collage of some of the measuring instruments he used at the power house: a micrometer and a Vernier protractor which I keep as a remembrance of him. He would be honoured by this gestute, as he worked so hard to keep Regina alight and to foster its development into the city it is today.

I was born in Regina in 1926, attended Davin Public School and Central Collegiate and began a 41 year career with the CPR, there, in 1946. My elder sister, Eleanor, married Stanley George Dethridge, Jr - the son of the individual whose remembrance is honoured by Dethridge Bay - in 1941. Eleanor died April 8th, this year at the age of 95. I recall Stan Dethridge Sr from the early days as Chief of the Light and Power Company at that time. He made a valid and substantial contribution to the growth and development of Regina in the years between world wars and after. His remembrance is richly deserved and his name should never be linked to negative connotations of death. He was a substantial 'pioneer' citizen who deserves remembrance!!
