Boulder County has applied for a grant that would help provide free bus passes for all Longmont residents for 2 years. What do you think about this? (Poll Closed)

I hope they do get that grant and use it for their RTD Access-a-Ride buses, their fees are outlandish. For regional trips is $20 round trip!!!! Not many can afford that, it's stupid.

im a car guy and i support this idea. less cars on the road should lighten up traffic and thats always a good thing

This is a good idea for homeless and the poor that have little to no income, especially in this crazy economy who are looking for work and need transportation to job interviews, etc. Too many people complain about the homeless; "lazy" people. Get over yourselves.

BarnOwl said "This would bring tax money ALREADY PAID into Longmont." --- as if the tax money would somehow melt away if not immediately used to prop up RTD.

No, the tax money should be used for schools, road repair, and public safety (police, fire). The Guv is always wanting higher taxes because there is never enough money on hand for schools, road repair, and public safety. Maybe there would be without the "free" Grants.

I'm noticing a distinct 'mean old fart' trend in all these polling results.

I think its time we start ignoring these useless polls.

While I don't necessarily agree with all the approaches RTD has used for funding, I do believe in supporting mass transit solutions for our city. A more ideal approach would be to allow funding through reimbursement programs to low income families, but allow the fares to increase in a "free-market" sense of accountability for RTD to riders for safety, convenience and comfort of passenger services. However, the problem politically with this approach is that it exposes the funding as a 'welfare' service rather than a 'community' program (why not call a spade a spade?) and has more trouble getting through the legislation processes.

So, let's embrace the windfall we get while we have the opportunity and work within the parameters we have all built for ourselves on this one.

I question the wording of this poll. The county is applying for a grant. This would bring tax money ALREADY PAID into Longmont. The money will go somewhere. It might as well come back here. It almost sounds like the choices are "Yes, give me (Longmont) money back" or "No, go ahead and send it somewhere else."
