Dean and Castiel take the whole cake. They are so in love. Supernatural's Season 8 made me realize and proved this to me. It would be a let down if they don't end up together, because their love is the most perfect I've ever seen in ANY tv show. It's love of the kind where you need the other person to be there, just because it's them; because their presence illuminates your days and makes them brighter and so much better. You need that person because if they're not there, you feel sort of incomplete and the days are sour. What I'm saying is that, Dean and Castiel is true love, the kind that is rare. They function so well together. They make me believe in love. This is the power of this fictional tv couple. I hope they win and I hope in my heart they become a canon, real, solid, undeniable romantic couple in the show.

THE SPN FANDOM PREVAILS ONCE AGAIN
After what we've seen in season 8, it would actually be surprising if Dean and Castiel did not get together eventually.
It doesn't even matter if it's gay or if being a wavelenght of celestial intent was so far a loophole (was, since Cas clearly is now a human male).
All that matters is that there is this hurt man who's gone from so much tragedies and on top of this he's stuck in another one because he's fallen just too damn deeply in love with something that loves him back, but does not know how to reciprocate in a way he would understand. And as result they keep hurting each other because they love each other.
And I just need them to find a common language on this one.
Dean needs to get the right answer on his "I need you" so first of all, Cas needs to hear it right.
So Dean will have to phrase it even more directly.
I'm saying "have to", because neither of them will be able to go on for long enough in this impasse
