IMO- Biggest problem we have in America right now...People care more about other peoples lives, their profession, how much money they are making, how they are making their money, and anything else under the sun they can gossip about.
People should focus on their own quality of life and how to improve it instead of bitching about Hammergren's payout.

No - the only people who should care or have a say are the shareholders, because this payment comes out of their dividends. If they approve, they must feel they are getting value for the money.
Customers shouldn't care - their question should be - "Am I getting a good value for the product and services received?"

No!! This is capitalism at its best. Good management = good products/services = profit = shareholder return = company stability = steady employment for the masses. When the end result is out of whack (and when customers and shareholders SHOULD care), is when financial decisions result in a product that is no longer priced competitively or filling the customers' needs. Customers can then vote with their feet.

When will this crazy multiple zero compensation be called into account? McKesson is doing very well on the pharma side, but not the HIT side. He should get paid, for sure, and a bonus, but $159 million???
Don G - 11 years ago
Yes. Excessive compensation sends negative, demotivating message to employees resulting in poorer customer service.
Money could be better spent on product and service improvements.

Of course they should care. $159mil is an asounding amount of money. That doesn't necessarily mean he shouldn't have received that much.

No, they should not care. If they are getting value in their contracts, then why would they care. If they aren't getting value in their contracts, then why are they signing them. Jealousy, envy, or hatred of other people is what is killing this country, not the smart guys getting wealthy. He deserves what he negotiates. If anyone has legitimate concern over this, it's the stockholders.

Of course they should be informed and care.

Absolutely they should care. He deserves a pension and a good one for the turnaround he engineered, although not $159M. Ultimaately, it's been Paul Julian who has run the distribution business all these years Hammergren is raking in disgusting compensation.

Yes, It's their money.

No. He and McKesson make their profits on pharmaceutical distribution which they are superb! That is why they are a Fortune 15 company. This medical audience needs to understand that being a great distributor (selling other company's products) is very different than actually creating, designing, quality controlling, and implementing a software solution. I've been there....I know!
