I am friends on Facebook with the parents of my kids. At first I didn't want to. I wanted to separate my work life and my non-work life. But then it became more apparent to me that being a nanny was more of my life then I could hide. I wanted to share it. I wanted to post pictures of what I do and tell people more about it. But I wanted them to feel comfortable and know about it, I wanted to respect their privacy. So, I asked them if they wouldn't mind me posting pictures of their kids. And the mom was totally okay with it and wanted to be official Facebook friends. I realized that I didn't have anything to hide from them anyway. I'm the same person as a nanny as I am when I'm not being a nanny. I wanted them to see me and know me and feel closer to them. So, now I tag her in all the pictures I take of us - I mean, my facebook is basically a nanny blog - and she "likes" and comments all the time. Truthfully, I feel more apart of the family this way. I strongly feel that's how it should be. We are raising children together, we might as well be open with each other.
