    Seriously. Boycott Walmart. It claims to embrace sustainability and corporate social responsibility but really has no principles. Consumers need to vote with their wallets.

    Have been following this page closely....Animal rights for Kemptville Wal-Mart and it appears that Wal-Mart has now hijacked the page. Former members are being blocked & deleted because they support Carla Cheney.

    This story is completely misleading, because it only talks about Carla's side of the story. It's completely honourable to confront a customer about the dog being left in the car and to kindly voice your opinion. It says that she was called into the manager's office and fired because she was rude to the customer. However, that's not the case. From talking with many people who live in Kemptville and know the entire story, she was called in to the manager's office for threatening the customer, and to talk with the customer, however she was not fired for that incident. She was reprimanded but not fired, and then left the building. As they left, she continued to threaten and confront the customer, who already was leaving. This confrontation led them to go back to the manager's office again, where they talked again about the incident, but again, she was not fired for her behaviour towards the customer. She was told about Wal-Mart's policy, where if something like this happens, employees are to report it to the manager and let them deal with it. She took issue with the policy, and said that she would never follow the policy. As a result of this statement, she was fired. I think we'd all agree that if people blatantly were to stand up in their office and say I will never follow this company policy, then the manager and company would have a clear issue on their hands and would have every right to terminate the employee.

    The key point is, she was fired because she blatantly stated that she would never follow a company-wide policy, something that any company would have the right to fire an employee for. She was not fired for the initial incident of confronting and threatening the customer, nor the second incident after she had already been talked to the first time. There is no question of her integrity; she did the right thing by bringing the issue of leaving a dog in a car unattended, regardless of how she did it. However, I just am irked by the fact that she won't reveal the reason she was fired, because she knows it, and wants to make Wal-Mart look like the ultimate bad guy by letting our imaginations run wild with speculation without the truth of facts.

    I'm glad the dog is alive. I'm glad she brought the issue up. She has the right to do that, and the customer has the right to refuse to shop at Wal-Mart, and to do whatever he or she wishes with his or her property, regardless of if it's a right decision or wrong. However, it's not right to mislead the public about a story by not revealing the true reason she was fired.

    something isn't right about these stories. the first headline is misleading as she didn't report the dog in the hot truck. one article had reported that carla saw another person write down the license number so she Carla didn't bother reporting anything. She didn't bother calling the police, is what was in the initial story.
    now it appears that cops showed up at walmart to talk to someone about leaving the dog in the car.
    it appears that she was fired for two reasons:
    1. saying something that by itself or by it's manner of delivery was perceived as rude by a customer.
    2. insubordination- she refused to follow company protocol on how to handle such complaints.
    3. a pattern since she may have been given a warning or at least spoken to about such things the previous week.

    its good that this event is bringing attention to a horrible practice of people leaving their loved ones behind in locked vehicles on hot days.
    But it may turn out that the person fired is not so much a hero after all. As , if she didn't call the police then she did absolutely nothing- she only commented at the guy long after the fact of being able to do something. and from the story, it appears that the interaction with the dog owner was during a break, when she was sitting with a group of walmart employees , making it reasonable to believe that she was a walmart employee.

    Since she did nothing- not even write down the number ( someone else did that ), she's not a hero.
    but she did get a lot of attention for herself as well as to the potential horrific results of leaving children/animals unattended in parked cars in Wal-mart parking lots.

    I don't think she was fired over that I was a Walmart employee in my town for 6 years and my mother has been there for 18 years and you have to do something extremely bad to be fired they don't just fire you for any reason I think there was more then this girl lets on but to answer the question yes and no yes she should of because this guy could of been dangerous and very much armed and no because she saved that poor dogs life anyone that shops with an animal left in the car should give there head a shake leave the animals at home when you wanna go shopping

    All I have to say is that there is more that meets the eye on this situation. Yes although she did have the right idea on noticing that it was wrong for the customer to leave his dog in the car, she wasn't in uniform and she also did not follow proper proto call and instead she decided to harass the customer. I know most of the time people think that if they confront the guilty party right away they will be the hero but when working for establishments every store has different proto calls which she did not follow. Another thing is yes RONA is doing the right thing by letting people bring there dogs instead of leaving them in the car, but RONA doesn't have produce, bread, dog treats and food in general, there is such thing as health codes sorry to say. Don't get me wrong I love dogs and I support humane rights for animals but there are certain times when you have to draw the line. And lastly this does NOT give people the right to come into walmart and harass the employees when they are working or on break because it has nothing to do with them!!! The funny thing is for a community that fought so hard to get walmart here, they don't mind trying to tear it down in a second, because if nobody has noticed every single walmart has the same policy for dealing with these sorts of issues.

    I don't shop at at Walmart anymore. I have not had good experiences and I know employess are treated poorly. Rona you absoultutley did the right thing by standing up for a principal (its called caring) something which Walmart doesn't know one wit about Neat isnt it that they they suddenly decided to put warning signs about the very thing she was fired for. How caring of them. Maybe Rona did accomplish something?. However, I suspect the signs to show care for animals will be an empty promise as it will impact the oney thing the company cares about. Money.

    If she had called the police, (and we assume they would get there toute suite pronto before something happened to the animal) the customer would have gone to the manger anyway whining about his encounter desribing the nasty soul had to deal with. The result would have been the same. Manager would assume she was the guilty one and faster than you can say presto Rona would have been fired with some other lame excuse.

    Kudos to Rona. I only wish more would stand up for those who can't defend themselves instead of taking a waek dishwater approach moaning on about not getting involved in someone elses problem.

    As for WALMART on hi ground here? Dont make me laugh.

    HA .. She absolutely did the correct thing. Good for her!! Wal Mart now has the entire dog community up in arms and if you check out FaceBook you will see that many of us are now boycotting Wal Mart. What a contrast to the photo of the sign posted at a RONA store inviting clients to bring their dogs into the store rather than leaving them in vehicles while their owners shop .... Kudos to RONA !

    According to reports she had the week before approached her manager over the same issue (assuming with a different customer), which is apparently company policy. She was told to mind her own business. With this response from her manager, who wouldn't do what she did? Only the people on site at the time will know her deportment, but regardless, she attempted to help the animal and confronted the customer. (with a warning she may call police - fair enough) Walmart no doubt will do some research before any statements are made publicly, but they're getting more bad press over this and the manager of that store in particular looks like a royal knucklehead. "I'm the manager - bow to me employee". Is there a history of poor behaviour by the employee? If not, this is completely ridiculous. I'm keen to follow this story and see what happens. At least this going public has forced Walmart to post signs and feign the company cares.

    There's more to this story, I think, than meets the eye.

    This wasn't the first time she got on a customer about this sort of thing, and she had been spoken to about it. When I read that, i was left with the impression that she was not so much protecting an animal as perhaps launching into some kind of offensive tirade.

    This would explain how, in the second incident when she wasn't in uniform, she got reported. If, instead of just calling the police as she claimed (good call), she went on a tear without even giving the customer a chance, I could easily see the customer reporting it.

    And that means that I can understand why she might get fired - not for the dogs but for being annoying to customers. It doesn't seem like she took the time to assess the situation either time. She has no idea that there was any danger beyond an assumption that an animal was going to be left for a long period of time. I'll bet she was very confrontational. That's what got her fired, not the actual issue of the dogs.

    The right thing would have been to call authorities and let them deal with it. Being rude, preachy and confrontational never pays.

    ... and I already don't shop at Walmart, so this doesn't affect me one way or the other, but I think Walmart might actually be on the high ground, weird as that may seem.

    Employee will hopefully get a better job offer from another company as even if offered her job back she is better off without employers who put the buck before animals and there employees. Hope there is a lawsuit in the making to get them in the pocket which seems to be the only place they care about.

    Carla should not have been fired for her actions. As far as Walmart, they are saying she was not fired for the incident however they are just covering their asses big time, since they screwed up.

    Good for you girl, if the owner of the dog doesn't have the brains to keep their dog out of the truck in extreme heat, then someone, like yourself obviously has to do their thinking. As far as I'm concerned, you did the right thing and if the dog owner is a good dog owner, he would thank you for it and as far as the manager that dismissed you, he should be the one to be dismissed, not you. I am not a Walmart shopper and after this travesty, I will NEVER be.

    I do believe Cheney should have been reprimanded/fired, but not because she reported the dog in the car. She had an honorable duty to call the police, but where she went wrong was confronting the man. As a Wal-Mart worker, on shift or not, she represents the company and by confronting a customer, she broke the rules. If Wal-Mart could not or would not do anything about the situation, then she should have discreetly (anonymously) made the call to the police, or have someone else do it.

    Furthermore, she was clearly insubordinate. We only know one side of the story and we don't know the details of her employment history. I find it hard to believe that she was fired for trying to save the dog, but rather, its how she went about it.

    This is absolutely disgusting for me to see this. I am a dog owner and I would never even bring my dog in the car with me if it is above 20 because it might be 20 outside but in the car with the windows rolled up it close to 40 or higher. She should not have been fired because at that point to hell with company policy it is about being a human being and doing what is right for the sake of the dog. The owners of Wal-Mart should be ashamed and I will never set foot in one again, I want to go to a store that cares and the girl did the right thing, the dog is alive and I know that there is a lot of people who support you, good for you for doing the proper thing.

    I am disgusted at Walmart for firing this employee for doing the right thing. It will now cost them even more money in lost revenue for all the people who won't shop there anymore because of this unfairness.
    This lady should have been commended and not fired.
    Please call the store manager, Greg Payne at 1-613-258-6295 and tell him what you think. They will try to send you to a 1-800 number which is just a third party call centre because they don't want to deal with the backlash.
    You can also call Walmart Head Office in Mississauga at 1-905-821-2111 and press "0" to connect to the switchboard. You can leave your complaint there or you can ask for the CEO who is Shelly Broader.
    She conveniently is not in today either.
    I hope they get floaded with calls and the woman gets her job back or better.

    No, the employee should not have been fired...............the dog owner should not be allowed to have a pet if that person leaves the pet in a closed-up car on a hot day. If she had left a small child, she would have been charged with neglect at the very least. A dog doesn't have rights? You bet a dog has rights!!!!

    I stand behind the employee, or any person that has the good sense to say something when a wrong is being committed. These are animals!!, Alive with feelings and souls and sadly no choice about what idiot owns them. I live in Winchester and don't know the woman, but unless something is done to the manager, ie. "Termination" for using such poor judgement and leadership skills, then I'm left to form no other conclusion that this behavior is in fact sanctioned by Wallmarts head office. I will not shop the location in Kemptville again or Wallmart period. When "Target" opens, hopefully they are a step up in class from "Wallmart"

    The young lady did exactly the right thing - I would have said something to this gentleman myself if I had been there!! Her manager should have never fired her for her actions - she should be reinstated and the manager fired!!!

    THE WORKER WAS IN THE RIGHT TO TELL THE CUSTOMER ABOUT THE DOG IN THE HOT TRUCK AND NO I DONT THINK SHE SHOULD OF GOT FIRED CAUSE SHE DID SOMETHING THAT WALMART MANAGER WOULDNT DO CAUSE THEY DONT ABOUT NOTHING EXCEPT FOR THEMSELVES AND THAT IS TOTALLY WRONG WE NEED MORE CARING PEOPLE OUT THERE NOW IF SOMETHING HAPPEN TO THAT DOG WOULD THE MANAGER FEEL BAD? NO THEY WOULD NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!SO SHE DID A EXELLENT JOB AND I THINK SHE SHOULD GET HER JOB BACK BUT IF SHE DOES NOT WANT TO GO BACK TO WALMART I WOULD UNDERSTAND CAUSE THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THERE EMPLOYEES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thats exactly why I don't shop at Walmart. Profits first. The customer probably complained to the store manager, who then fired the woman. Walmart is all about exploitation whether it be employees or foreign
    factory workers, ie Bangladesh.

    Wal- Mart I've had just about enough from your inconsiderate and bad behavior towards your employees not to mention your are never stocked so my shopping experience has changed. Now I won't be able to walk down your pet food section knowing you could care less if my pet is dead or alive. No More WAL-MART for me!!!!!!!

    Thankfully there was someone working who cared about animals!!!! Walmart needs to change their policy regarding things like this happening. Are they too afraid of being sued that they will allow a child or animal to die of heat stroke?? Too many people do too little to late ( or do nothing at all )_. The girl should get her job back with a big thank you and a bonus for being proactive.

    Getting help for a Living Creature as soon as possible, was definitly the right thing to do. Its not known how long before she got there, that the dog was in those conditions. There is time after, to deal with the situation.....after the this precious life is safe & in good hands. Delaying to have a dicussion on how to handle it first, is inhumaine. Does this manager want time to report to his boss & perhaps fill out some paperwork first. Really?! This Manager should have been fired & this Employee should be honored!

    The managers actions & policies of Wallmart should change on a situation of life & death, such as this. A Customer who would risk a such a life has no rights when it comes to such things. There are no accuses or rationalizations that this Customer could/should beable to make, for his/her choices.

    I feel the girl should be given a medal, and a job at a different place of employment, I for one will question the store policy and I feel if Wal-Mart practiced a no animals in cars incentive( unless a sight or sound dog or police officer which are treated humanely ) they would receive a lot more business than they do already. I for one will the think twice before shopping at any Wal-Mart again. I want to shop at a store that cares.

    You did the right thing girl, hold your head up high, the dog is alive.
