Yes, the Repugs are extremely happy to see Detroit go bankrupt, and they want the pensions reduced and the retirees thrown out on the street. They want this, because it gives them a precedent to proceed to gut SS.

The GOP will go the way of the Edsel.

How is the Affordable Care Act working. It doesn't go into full effect till 2014. This is why the politicians who wrote the law delayed it.. They now are starting to understand how costly it will be to the economy. Already companies are cutting back workers to part time do to its cost to implement. There will be more without coverage then before it was enacted. It's ignorant citizens like you that don't understand basic economics and vote for ignorant politicians that have run many of the cities to bankruptcy or near to it. Sorry the politicians you vote for are not ignorant, this is what they want. They know exactly what their doing. They want you and all of their voters to be dependent on them. As far as the speeches Obama gives about working on the economy that is just what it is talk. The stimulus plan was a great economy boost wasn't it. Hey Hitler gave great speeches too. Governor Snyder broke no unions. He merely gave the labor force a free choice to join a union or not. If you want to join a union you still have this opportunity. Detroit was not bailed out once, it was the mismanaged auto manufactures, private business. How come Ford didn't need a bail out? If the money where given to the city of Detroit for a bail out your Democrat politicians would squander this money then put the blame on anyone but themselves. Try to understand, less government, lower taxes and less restrictions mean a more robust economy. I won't try to explain it because you and all others like you look to the government for their needs. Take a little responsibility for yourselves. Let Greece be a lesson. They tried just what this administration is trying now. Look where it got them. I don't want the government making me dependent on them and I know most don't either. If you look for dependency on the government you end up with nothing in the end except the politicians having what they want.

Only idiots watch this dummy and vote in his polls.

Of course, republicans want Detroit and other cities to go belly up. Their crony friends will then be able to buy public assets at pennies on the dollar. It is what they are doing all over the country - turning public assets to private hands for profit. Then, they will "sell" these "services" back to the public, but with a "for profit" motive. That is the job of government. Government should be running those services and there should be NO PRIVATIZATION of public assets nor services.

It never ceases to amaze how these polls always break down with the same bias. Anything which presents a scenario putting the Republicans in a bad light generates greater than a 90% negative response. This merely confirms that the majority of people who follow these polls refuse to accept the reality of the abject failure of Democratic policies which are leading this country down a long path of failure.

The Democratic party and their union allies have lead the city of Detroit and many other urban centers such as Philadelphia to the brink of financial demise yet the local populace denies the reality. When Republicans attempt to clean up the mess and establish fiscal sanity, they are portrayed as the problem not the solution by the chronic dependents who surrendered to the false hope of Democratic handouts.

Unfortunately this model has now reached our nation's capital and has thrived in the era of President Obama, Sen. Reid and Rep. Pelosi. Their legacy of false promises, political pandering and outright lies now only appeals to narrow minded, delusional people. 2014 and 2016 cannot come soon enough for the long term survival of this country.

Sorry America! You do not need an EXTERNAL ENEMY as long as REPUBLICANS are in Charge.

Thank you Ed, for coming back , We sure need you to talk for us... There was one comment on this page that Detroit hasn't had a Democrat in office sense 1961, well I would guess that's the problem... It's really something else how the Republican governor just over took Detroit, fired everyone, Mayor, city council, school superintendents and just sent in one person to fix it.. Well he sure fixed it....My God , they even took away citizens right to protest and vote... This is not democracy Ed... What's wrong with the people of Michigan ?

  • Franz - 11 years ago

Ed Schulz is a f**king liar. there hasn't been a Democrat in power in Detroit since 1961. and know were not happy about it. I want to use my money to vacation in Europe, not bail out the progressive socialist free spending adventures. and Tami Webber, your an idiot. Every body but you seems to know GM is still failing, Only Ford, that didn't take the bail out is doing well.

Why is it the republican Tea Party have voted 38 times to repeal Obamacare and has FAILED 38 times. Because Obamacare is working for the people in this country. Putting off the penalty for businesses for a year is not helping the working poor, who are out there working minimum wage jobs to make ends meet. President Obama Blinked again!!! Nothing is getting done in Congress except Congressman are getting their pay for doing nothing. Enough is Enough. Congressman are derelict in their duty by the Oath they took when they were sworn into Office. They are Domestic Terrorist!

Detroit is a symbol to the republicans of breaking one of the biggest Union State in this country. They don't care what happens, Governor Synder as the Governor of this State, he is doing the worse job in history of this country. Synder needs to be removed from Governorship, I can not believe there isn't a Law that they can use to get him out of Office. President Obama baled out Detroit once, now he will have to do it again.

  • Barbara Vogel - 11 years ago

Unfortunately the Republicans seem to only care about the rich. Detroit is too working class for them. The sad thing is that many Republicans will never be in that upper income bracket either. They need to vote for their own interests.

  • DonnaJoy - 11 years ago

Gov. Synder is applying the ALEC agenda to a tea. He wants to destroy cities with large number minorities and sell all assets at pennies to a dollar. Even their Art Museum may be forced to sell valuable art pieces very cheaply. Also Wall Street played a role by pushing Mortgage arms which ended in a large number of foreclosures. The wealthy conservatives want to take over as much of America as they can and privatize as much as they can so they increase their wealth even more. Synder, a puppet for the Koch brothers, has no economic plans to help the residents of the State. Dick DeVos is also helping in the destruction of Michigan and his wife, Betsy, is working across the country to destroy public education and push charter schools for some children. We have to stand with the People of Detroit because what is happening to them can come to your city as well.

Chris Wallace is a disgusting person who could not be where he is without his father who was able to investigate and tell true stories instead of what his son, Chris, is doing, which is misinforming and distorting the truth.

Yes, in my opinion - I guess this is why Mit Romney was so angry at the President for bailing out the car companies. In typical Republican fashion - they just kept going and hoping now that it is "Mission Accomplished" and they can get their hands on Detroit's treasurers and another way to suppress the American people vote. The GOP is all about money and power even if it destroys America and the American people.

The gop, will be in for a shocking realization in 2014, their hate of this president has run it's course.
people are tired of their hate schemes, name calling. It has become boring.Detroit will bounce back in a big way, and become the plank in the GOP eye. It will be their downward spiral to the way of the wig party.Hate runs fast and destroies, but Love moves slow,is restoring, refeshing, recovers all. Watch and see what God does with Detroit.

  • Anup K. Sen - 11 years ago

Yes. Most Republicans want to see failures in President Obama's administration. They will not help Democrats to be successful. The American tax payer's are paying them as such we need to change our laws which will make it easier to FIRE elected people for non performance.

A million times "yes." The Rethuglicans are jumping up and down with unbridled joy about Detroit going bankrupt. Thank you, Ed, for settng the record straight. Rethuglicans see a grand opportunity for them and their buddies to strip Detroit to the bone like a vulture picking a carcass clean--all for the sole purpose of getting filthy, stinking rich. For Rick Snyder to get rid of the real blight in Detroit, the citizens of Michigan need to get rid of him.

  • Danny M. Edge - 11 years ago

Ed should make the point that management of the auto industry took their millions during the sixty years Governor Snyder blames the Democratic run city of Detroit, and now Snyder and the GOP is robbing the union retirees of their pensions. Labor retirees waited while the management took theirs and ran, now Republicans are robbing those who agreed to wait. Does that seem fair to anyone in America?

  • Nicoya - 11 years ago

It's all part of the Repuks Master Plan to take over America.

  • allan - 11 years ago

No they are not happy about it because they will have to clean up the mess.

  • Elena Valentino - 11 years ago

Private interests have their eyes on choice properties, especially riverside properties. If Detroit goes bankrupt, schools, community centers, and parks will be torn down and privately-owned restaurants, convention centers, sports stadiums and golf courses will replace what belongs to the citizens of Detroit.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, ED. I have never lived in Detroit but I've spent my whole life in Michigan. As Detroit goes so goes this state. Detroit IS Michigan. I'm retired and disabled but Snyder just raised taxes on me as a retiree so he should use that money to fix the city that helped get me my pension in the auto industry. I'm glad to help Detroit not destroy it!!!

  • Sylvia Hayes - 11 years ago

BRAVO, we are 3 miles from Detroit, and at 69 and 73 Detroit is our soul. It looks like what Ed has he got from Bernero according to my husband and Michael Dyson caught it too. Loved it.

  • Kenny - 11 years ago

I dont think real republicans are happy about this, However there are some lunatic members of congress and elsewhere who might be.

  • TAMI WEBER - 11 years ago

GOP was angry when Obama's bail out of the auto industry worked so if you can not make the auto industry look bad and Obama look bad one way then you go a different route to insure failure of both. Another example of racism in a primarily black city and the same-old, same-old GOP obstructionist.
