Do you think merchants should have to accept premium credit cards and their associated interchange fees?

Frankly I think the credit card companies should only be allowed to charge a 1.5% flat fee and suck it up princess. They make money hand over fist in so many other ways. It is the cost of doing business to attract the higher worth individuals of premium cards.

I already pay a per year usage fee for a premium card so I feel credit card companies shouldn’t be double dipping (skimming?) on each of my transactions because they have to give me a bonus Aeroplan mile. Isn’t that why I pay a user fee for the “privilege” of a perk?

I love being referred to as a deadbeat to these companies because we never carry a balance… If they decide to up my yearly fee… Bye bye birdie and next card please.

Let me get this straight - if Visa and Mastercard had lost, retailers would have dropped their prices because they no longer have to accept higher rewards cards from consumers who probably spend a lot more money in stores anyhow. That's the same logic used to sell the GST to Canadians in the 80's and more recently the HST in British Columbia. Fortunately, there's enough of us who understand that retailers NEVER pass on these savings.

For the 71% who are so ready to vote against the business-remember that the "cost of doing business" will be deflected and subsequently borne by the consumer. This represents an undue inflation in consumer services and goods, which is a boon to both the consumer and the business. This poll carelessly points the finger at the wrong enterprise. The credit card companies are the gougers here, and stand to benefit either way.
