Go. San Jose fans are super nice and will welcome you. The rink is a little quiet in the regular season, but clean and Californian (they serve sushi rolls). Lot of mixed couples wearing Detroit and SJ jerseys. And you don't feel like someone is going to kill you like at Chicago games.
