Is Rick Snyder's government takeover of Detroit the model for other Republican governors?

Republicans, as opposed to liberal Democrats, do not have model solutions but rather look at a problem and think through a rational and logical solution. A liberal looks at a problem and immediately sees the government as the solution. Seeing what liberal governments have done to major cities such as Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia, one can only hope that before all is lost there will be a major change in leadership and mindset.

One need only look at the failed policies ,deceptions and duplicity being implemented in Washington to see the model for failed leadership and the deterioration of our country.

Was the takeover of 9 Michigan cities (and the Detroit Public School System) by Governors Blanchard (D) and Granholm (D) the model for other Democrat governors? Just askin.

We are working feverishly to get out the mid-term vote. Let's NOT STAY HOME in 2014. That's when the states do their damage when we're not electing national candidates. People, get with "organizing for america" in your neighborhood, and inform the people on your street, and 2 streets over and 2 streets back. Do the walking tour knocking on doors, letting people know WHICH CANDIDATES WILL HELP THE PRESIDENT GET THE PEOPLES' WORK DONE. Call up the League of Women Voters. They usually put out "the good list", and the league explains what the amendments mean to your life, and you decide if that's what you want to manage your life. Women's issues, children's issues; education issues, family issues, housing issues, student loan issues, jobs issues, healthcare issues like all the congressmen and congresswomen have, voter's rights issues.
As soon as the un-aborted baby takes its first breath, IT IS ON ITS OWN, because of the partial list of issues mentioned above that the rethuglicans do not care about. If that un-aborted child still manages to make it to age 18, the rethuglican war-hawks are more than willing to make cannon fodder out of him/her.

All that is very good reason to get involved with the intent to TAKE OUT THE TRASH...

The Republicans are always talking about freedom but what they are doing is turning our country into a communist state, bit by bit, with the Reps. acting as communist party members, taking over what they want! Shame on you, Reps.

Why isn't President Obama going to Detroit? He is campaigning in other places, why isn't he stepping in and putting his foot down on what they are doing with the money that the federal government gave to Detroit for the demolition of buildings. The federal government should stop all funding until there is a detailed explanation of how, which, where and why homes, stores and building are selected for demolition.

Public parks are the property of all the citizens of Detroit. They are not politicians private domains and should not be sold without a vote by the citizens.

Yes, Walker would love to do the same to Madison,WI. The problem he has is that the jobs are not leaving quickly enough in Madison.
We should take the pensions away from every political figure in Detroit, Michigan and the US Congress that have sat by and helped this happen.
This really smells of GOP/ALEC greed.

Why isn't someone stopping this? This can't be legal. Reinstating an Emergency Manager Law after the voters repealed it can't be legal. If we stood on our roofs and waved our arms would FEMA save us. Again, why isn't someone stopping this?

what is about to happen is a travesty. Contracts are apparently not worth honoring if they are with public employees...only if you are a Wall Street banker or money man. If Belle Isle is "privatized" it will be grand larceny with a pardon attached.

I' m a former Detroiter. In fact, my younger brother went to Bagley school because we lived in that neighborhood, This is so distressing. There is no question that anti-unionism and RACISM is a major part of Snyder's strategy. GM abandoned the city long ago. It's time now for the Feds to complete the Detroit "Bailout" and actually bring the jobs back to the City.

Thanks for being on the side of Detroit.

Snyder, Koch brothers, DeVos, are all disgusting people who have only themselves in mind. Snyder took Gateway down the drain and transferred jobs abroad. That makes him a perfect puppet for the brothers. This is all about making the goals in the ALEC playbook come true. Belle Isle should remain as a national park for the people and not the wealthy libertarians that just want more and more since they see the world as one of scarcity and that they deserve it all.

Cathie, I believe it is being stolen from employees pensions to enrich companies which are making gobs of money already. Rip off the poor and people struggling to stay afloat, to line their pockets and their friends pockets - that's the plan of the rethuglicans. And when they're done, those on the very bottom, which would be millions of the 98% would be yoked with abject poverty not unlike bangladesh and other such countries. I believe that was the "new world order" pappy bush was talking about...

Gov. Synder is showing his dark side of government. He want to rid the residence of Detroit and bring in his rich buddies to do a takeover, and that's verrrry cold blooded.

Detroit has a remarkable reputation in history and you have a govenor who don't care, completely. He don't want to revive this city, he want to destroy it and put the blame on the people. Don't believe a word coming out of Synder's month, he lies so badily that poision is spitting out his words.

get out the vote for 2014. it must be more intense ground work than 2012. how many of you are ready? I am.

  • Mark - 11 years ago

We must vote republicans out of Congress in 2014. We must vote them out of State office as those elections come up. They care nothing about the majority of Americans.

  • Cathie Anderson - 11 years ago

The model Rick Snyder is using is perfectly exposed in Naomi Klein's book, "Shock Doctrine". Other republican governors are eagerly awaiting their own opportunity at yet another power grab to make their supporters millions of dollars at the taxpayers expense. They care nothing for the poor and oppressed in their communities. I would like to know where the $400,000,000 being given to the Detroit Redwing Hockey Team is coming from- and why???
