Did the city make the right call on the Point Grey bike lane?

    Sorry mangled comment below.

I guess it wasn't enough for the elite along Point Grey Road to have 30 kph playground signs where no playgrounds existed, along with speed traps for the past two decades, while cars zoomed by real playgrounds nearby. This will not cut the vehicular flow of traffic to and from UBC, ergo it simply transfers the congestion, noise, and pollution from one area to even more in others. To say otherwise is nonsensical.

To say this move to accommodate a couple of special interest groups from one route to other already congested routes doesn't just transfer a problem is senseless.

More traffic up the already clogged Burrard St. to 4th Ave. that I already avoid like the plague is terrible. In addition diverting even more traffic to MacDonald, Broadway, 12th, and 16th, and their side streets is unconscionable. The constantly expanding UBC and residents there, do not warrant shutting down traditional routes.

If the existing bike route in that area had to be moved to along Point Grey Road, city land that has been appropriated by the owners over the years should have been reclaimed and used. But the decision was made before consultation by ideologues on council, not only to put in the bike lane, but to close Point Grey Road in doing so, despite the evidence and statistics giving the lie to the histrionics used over safety and historical traffic flow issues.

I walk long distances, bike, use transit, and drive a hybrid to adjust to city living. Too bad the people I supported because they said the had Vision have turned out to be almost cult like in their obsessions.
Apparently the HST debacle taught politicians nothing!
