Should highway speed limits be increased in some parts of B.C.?

I echo David Searle's post and add that its also time for the province, ICBC and police to enforce the "keep right except to pass" rule. Passing on the right of those stubborn left lane drivers abiding to the oppressive and unsafe "legal" speed limits is very dangerous.

ICBC should stop being politically correct? Why would they want that? They're making money hand over fist with the current system. Time to kill off ICBC and bring in a system more like Alberta's (ie: competition).

The 85th percentile is the speed that dictates, on any given road 85% of the drivers will drive at the safe, correct speed for the design and conditions. Many jurisdictions use this to set limits. Texas has just raised the limits on some roads to 85 mph, most freeways in the states are 70 mph. A lot of arterials in Vancouver and Victoria are posted at 50 kph but the normal traffic flow is closer to 65. The multi lane Island highway is posted at speeds of 80 and 90 kph in unpopulated sections, most traffic travels at 110. Where the speed limit is 110 kph north of Parksville, most traffic moves along safely at 110 to 120....Rarely do you see any at a greater rate of speed, same applies for the Trans Canada once east of Abbotsford. It is about time the province, ICBC and BCAA speak out and stop being so "politically correct" A lot more time should be spent on cell phone talkers and people text messaging while driving, these drivers cause far more accidents than impaired and speeding drivers, experts put this problem down to causing between 30% to as high as 80% of all accidents.
