All U.S. Constitutional Amendments have equal weight, 1st, 2nd, 10th, doesn't matter. I am PERSONALLY against a you writing crap about your half informed opinions, but your freedom of the press is still protected. As a survivor of violence, you have no right telling me when and where I can protect my family and self or HOW.

    Mr. Ross,
Like you, I make my living in journalism. Unlike you, I grew up around guns. Everyone I knew growing up had one. No one shot anyone, accidentally or otherwise-ever. It's not how we were raised. Y'all are attacking a symptom of a much, much larger cultural issue.

Don't take my word for it. Read the poll above and see what percentage of on-the-street police officers believe that more gun control is not the answer.

    Self protection is a right.

After the Newton incident the Obama administration did everything in its power to attack law abiding gun owners. As usual the Democrat political Machine, backed by Governor Cuomo of NY went right after the innocent and the lawful.

Since this assault on Civil Liberties started, I have signed up several families to my local gun club.
I have been taking my 2 daughters to the Range every chance I get.
I teach my children responsibility, and they know who is going after their rights, they will vote the right way.

I will NEVER vote for a Democrat in my life, ever again. EVER!

LOL another one PROUD to say hell no they shouldn't be gun free zones (also known as 'targets')

I have fought and bled to protect this country and our rights and freedoms. No way should idiots like you be allowed to trample all over them.

You don't like the way things are in this country? Move to Britain or Australia.

  • curt waldrip - 11 years ago

i feel far safer knowing that law abiding people with firearms are in a place to protect me in case that a nut job or criminal decides to attack. if they prohibit firearms, is a criminal going to see the sign and decide to go elsewhere? this is a really dumb idea.

I don't think the poll went as expected by the OP

  • Snake Pliskin - 11 years ago

Wow. Got your ass kicked in your own poll. Epic.

  • George Chargas - 11 years ago

Wow...I was actually expecting a little more on the yes side, but I am happy to say I am one of the 95%. Some of these ridiculous arguments I hear are so far out of reality that it's not even funny. Even more frightening is people actually in their heart of hearts believe it. ND's are down, gun violence is down, and law abiding citizens that are granted a concealed carry license are 92 times less likely to commit a crime. Even more so, concealed carry holders have less negligent discharges than that of the general public. Good luck with this poll.

    Hey Brian,

    Your absolute ignorance is baffling!
Gun Free Zones are killing zones for disturbed people!

    *************
USA TODAY: Gun-free zones provide false sense of security.

The Hartford Courant: 'Gun Free' Zones Attract Killers
    COMMENTARY
A few things you won't hear about from the saturation coverage of the Newtown school massacre:
•Mass shootings are no more common than they have been in past decades, despite the impression given by the media.
•In fact, the high point for mass killings in the U.S. was 1929, according to criminologist Grant Duwe of the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
•Incidents of mass murder in the U.S. declined from 42 in the 1990s to 26 in the first decade of this century.
•The chances of being killed in a mass shooting are about what they are for being struck by lightning.
•Until the Newtown horror, the three worst K–12 school shootings ever had taken place in either Britain or Germany

    >>>>>>>>>>>>
The New American: Gun-free Zones Called "Magnets for Mass Shooters"
“There, you have seven movie theaters that were showing the Batman movie when it opened at the end of July. Out of those seven movie theaters, only one movie theater was posted as banning permit-concealed handguns. The killer didn't go to the movie theater that was closest to his home. He didn't go to the movie theater that was the largest movie theater in Colorado, which was essentially the same distance from his apartment as the one he ended up going to. Instead, the one he picked was the only one of those movie theaters that banned people taking permit-concealed handguns into that theater.”

What do the following shooting locations have in common?
“THEY ARE ALL GUN FREE ZONES”

Kansas City, MO – Two killed in the Ward Parkway Mall
Littleton, CO – Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold massacre 13 people at Columbine High School
Red Lake, MN – Jeffrey Weise murdered seven people, including an unarmed security guard
Golita, CA – Jennifer San Marco shot and killed seven people in a post office
Salt Lake City, Utah – Sulejman TaloviÄ, five dead at the Trolley Street Mall
Blacksburg, VA – Seung-Hui Cho, killed 32 people at Virginia Tech
Aurora, Colorado - James Holmes, killed 12 people and wounded 58, in a movie theater.
Newtown, Ct - Adam Lanza, Killed 20 children and six adults dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Wow buddy. Starting to realize you are just part of a loud minority yet?

  • Dustin - 11 years ago

The real fact is that the Majority of Americans are pro second amendment, as well as the majority of businesses. Real men are not afraid of inanimate objects, most of us real men were raised around guns, and understand the importance of them and also understand the right to bear arms preserves our constitutional rights, as well as prevents dictators and tyrants from taking power. The second Amendment also allows your first amendment to free speech even if you are uninformed. God bless you for exercising your rights, but realize you are a small minority and stop infringing upon ours.
Carry on brothers and sisters, and most of all stay safe.
    God Bless.

Man, that's gotta suck. Create a poll on your own webpage only to have the results so diametrically opposed to your own beliefs? I know that you WANT to think all the bad happens in the world because of the weapons that exist in it. Maybe it's time to come to grips with the FACT that people are the real problem?

  • Sylvia - 11 years ago

See Brian, your own poll does not even support your stand. As I reply I see that 95% of visitors believe Starbucks should NOT be a gun free zone, 4% believe it should and 1% don't care. The 95% of us will continue to enjoy our coffee at Starbucks.

"Should Starbucks Coffee Houses be Gun Free?"

To those of you who believe they should, how exactly would you intend to make it so? Implement a policy and hang a sign on the wall? Yes, that will surely do it. Why not implement a policy that prohibits robberies, hang a sign stating so, and hell, make it illegal, too, while we're at it? Oh, wait a minute....

The fact of the matter is that there is no such thing as a gun-free zone; it just simply does not exist. You can come up with all the policies you want and hang all the signs you like, but the fact is that banning something will not stop it from happening. I'm sure some of you may be thinking that such logic is faulty, since it implies that we should just give up and not try to ban anything. Yet, nothing could be further from the truth. Making murder illegal, for example, does not hurt anyone but those who wish to commit such heinous acts. While it will not stop it from happening, it will provide the means for which justice can be served. Even then, we make exceptions for those who kill in self-defense situations. However, when we look at firearms, the only group who benefits from their being made illegal are the criminals of society, for they gain an advantage over a disarmed and law-abiding public. It is by this very comparison that one should realize that it is a folly for us to not make the exception for ourselves, the law-abiding citizens, who wish to be armed, to do so.

So to those who believe that signs and policies will keep you safe from the evils in the world, I wish you well, and I hope that one day you will realize that these signs are merely the illusion of safety and security. In a perfect world, no one would need a gun. Unfortunately, this isn't a perfect world.

This "open letter" and reply should be respectfully dismissed - the same as any similar letter asking for Starbucks or any business to discriminate. Imagine the outrage if this was a letter asking Starbucks to stop allowing gays, ethnics, or anyone of color from entering their store? If you want the laws regarding concealed weapons to change, use the political processes in place! Do not just write letters demanding businesses start discriminating against people protected by law.

  • 2A Mom - 11 years ago

Why are you so afraid of Americans having the right to protect themselves? God bless America, the constitution and starbucks :)

  • Laura Ives - 11 years ago

Thank you Starbucks for treating your customers equally and fairly.

Asking a business to discriminate against its own customers? We can do better than that! Let's find peace on this issue WITHOUT discrimination.

    P.S.
I'm sorry Brian, but here in the USA, a man who is afraid of guns... is not a man. :-)
