NO...BO should not be fired for wut he said.....so wut that this so called private convo came out in public...BO was saying out loud what every other coach out there only thinks....more power to BO...he's doing a hellofa good job...i think our fans are tooooo spoiled...really, thinking we can win ALL our games..come on people, the team of the mid/late 90's is no longer playing...we are in the NOW...so lets all support BO, give him and the team time, they will turn it all around, and when they do...then all you HATERS and comearound band wagon jumpers can act like you were with him and the team from the get go....this is all for now....may peace be with you all....lets get another WIN and bring home the CHAMPIONSHIP we all deserve.....(you and HUSKER fans are already champions if you don't know that already)....thank you....

  • Should Dirk Chatelain be fired? - 11 years ago

Let's see if we can get the OWH to start a poll to get fans opinion on whether they should fire garbage collecting/badgering reporters like Chatelain and others they have on staff. Seriously, isn't there better news out there that you can find and report on? I know it is what you get paid to do, but how do you look at yourself's in the mirror every morning when you get out of bed and go to work?

Seeing this kind of dirt in the paper everyday reminds me of the kind of magazines at the checkout lines. OWH you have lost me as a weekly subscriber.

To those who say that his 'true' feelings came out in his rant... I think that is the most ridiculous and simple minded opinion. I can't count how many times in my worst moments of anger after an argument with my wife I've said things (usually under my breath) that I said only because I was extremely upset. I didn't say them to her and later was glad that I hadn't because there weren't my true feelings. They were feelings affected by extreme emotion and frustration. And aside from that, I actually don't have any problem with Bo being upset at the fans who left at halftime...since I was one of them!! I deserved his frustration and whatever comments he lobbed my way since leaving a game when your team is down is the very definition of a fair-weather fan!!! Nebraska fans need to get off their perch and quit thinking we're all so high and mighty and beyond criticism.

  • Gayle Teget - 11 years ago

Drop it already. He was angry at a series of circumstances, sounded off, was surreptitiously recorded and is now being asked to pay a price way out of proportion to whatever was said. Is there anyone who has never said something he/she later regrets? Come on, people, this was two years ago! By the way, the person who recorded, and held the tape for two years, only to try to create the most trouble while remaining anonymous, is the despicable one.

  • Catherine Biddulph - 11 years ago

The "person" who released this tape is a despicable coward. My parents taught me that eavesdropping on a private conversation--or recording someone without his knowledge--is just not done by respectable people.

So, Nebraska, let's not reward this "fan's" smarmy behavior; I believe that what (s)he did is much worse than a passionate coach letting the f-bombs fly in a moment of frustration.

  • Dave Cooke - 11 years ago

This is the culmination of the OWH's agenda to ruin Bo Pelini, and in the process ruin Nebraska football. Two year old comments that were, in my opinion, spot on. Wow. The dreaded "f-bomb", which you can't avoid hearing at any movie theater or even when walking down the streets of Lincoln during an average day. The horror. But this is what the OWH's people have worked for, through nasty little people like Dirk Chatelain, and so here it is. Great. Kill the program once and for all. Be proud that you've ruined a good man's life. Pat yourselves on your pathetic, narrow shoulders, and God have mercy on you. Because you are really terrible people and, regardless of what happens next (though we all know what the end will be) you will have the disgusting pleasure of living with yourselves.

  • Jeremie - 11 years ago

I agree that SEC is the power conference, but the NCAA is looking, so maybe that will change. I don't think OWH is hyping the issue. I am grateful they are giving us an outlet to hash these things out. When I first heard of this I wanted him suspended for the next game, but after reading others comments I am convinced that nothing should be done. This was 2 years ago, and if it was such a big deal why hasn't it come out 'till now? Let's let it go and let Bo be Bo.

  • Teresa Kabourek - 11 years ago

Glass houses people - exactly how would you handle this if you were in this position? And are all you "fire Bo" folks, are you that there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that couldn't come back and bite you in the butt if it was made public for all the world to see?

Bo is a man, a very passionate man, passionate for his players, passionate for the team, passionate for the program. And lets be honest, to a true fan, fair-weather fans tick the holy begeezus out of all of us. Bo didn't make what he said public, he didn't get on the mic and say this, he didn't say it out in the open, he was in a private setting and assumed he had a moment to himself and some close folks to him to just vent - and that's all it was folks! VENTING. I'd rather a coach who vented in private than taking it out on his players, I'd rather a coach who vented in private then publically shaming the program with his back seat driver mentality (Gill).

Sheesh, what more do you want of him? The only person I know for sure who never vented about those who abandoned him was Christ, and I don't know of anyone on this earth who can quite measure up to him.

First, Husker fans knew what Bo was all about when he was hired. He's a fiery guy who wears his emotions on his sleeve. One would assume, given his background, that he may use profanity.
Second, he was talking about "fans" who walked out before the game was over. (kind of like they used to do at AkSarBen.
Third, it happened two years ago, if this made the coward so upset why didn't that person make the tape available at that time.
Finally, fans need to realize that the SEC is now the power conference and many of the best players will not be willing to locate in a small town with a northern climate. Just be happy that Bo cares enough to get angry when things don't go right and be grateful for a winning season.

  • Rex Chevalier - 11 years ago

I'm not certain whether Bo should be reprimanded or not. I appreciate his passion but he has to keep it in check away from the field. Bob Devaney was no choir boy but every word he said wasn't recorded either... I think Bo cares deeply about the University of Nebraska, our great state and especially the student athletes... One thing he could do (on his own) would be to man up, take a microphone to the center of the field before the game this Saturday and apologize to the fans, the state & the players. That's the Nebraska way! .... "We all stick together in all kinds of weather at Dear Old Nebraska U" There is No Place like Nebraska!!! Go Big Red!

  • Mark J Shaw - 11 years ago

Quickly and swiftly fired. Anyone who speaks about someone the way Bo has means it.

We don't need you either Bo!

    Bo must GO!

  • J. Lienemann - 11 years ago

Get real, trash from 2 years ago, who cares? Need to put this issue to sleep. I think that he has improved his press/fan relationship since then. He was hired to be a coach, not a public speaker. Let him coach & recruit.

  • Gayle Tines - 11 years ago

Leave it alone the Media and the Fan that does not know football and thinks they do are the only ones having fun with this.
Everyone loses it once in a while.
For the fan that said" Dr. Tom never thought about leaving Ne " What about the trip to Colorado.

  • Nola - 11 years ago

I'm more interested in seeing the person that leaked this get disciplined than Bo. Shame on them! He said some things he shouldn't have said, but taking a private conversation and airing it publicly is not how Nebraskans do things. This is beneath Nebraska football. Also, I think this poll is just making it worse. Disappointed in the Omaha World Herald for running it.

  • Terry - 11 years ago

I want to see the name of the spineless cowardly person who posted the audio. That person is the one in need of disciplining.

  • Du wah - 11 years ago

All you anti Bo people out there. Should Tom Osborne be punished too? For making such a serious error in judgement. After all he's the one who hired Bo. Who else would you rather have had to make that decision back then?

  • Tom Roberts - 11 years ago

Bo has not fullfiled his obligations to the Huskers program. In fact he disrespects not only the erferees but his own players. He is bad news for the state of Nebraska!!! We should get the North dakota coach who has won the past 2 FCS championships. He was a assistany to Nebraska football ans a native Nebrasken.

  • Caryl Robinson - 11 years ago

I cannot help but wonder why the OWH is running this poll...only adding fuel to the fire...is this the intent? Let's ask the owners/editors/sports writers if they have ever said anything they would not want to be made public...this was two years ago and in a private conversation...shame on the OWH for hyping this issue!

Bo has already been punished when he had to make a public apology for something that was said in confidence and off the record. Is the standard that we are going to set for success as a coach to never get caught saying something off the record that could be used 2 years later to embarass them? It was no secret when Bo was hired that he is a firey individual with a vocabulary filled with 4 letter words and a little rough around the edges so this dirt that some weasel got on him should come as no surprise either. Much as he has tamed down his sideline behavior during games, he will learn from this and improve. That is the metric that should be used to judge him by, along with many other metrics that actually have to do with football and the young men who play the game. Any "fan" who thinks that starting over again will guarantee success faster than improving on what we have invested 5+ years in is not in tune with reality.

  • Theresa Geraghty - 11 years ago

I agree with everything Debra said so I won't rewrite it here. The person who released this audio has accomplished his/her goal. University officials have played into his/her hands by falling over themselves doing 'damage control', pathetic. I may be going out on a limb here, but what's happening in the media is exactly what this person or persons intended. Otherwise, why release it two years later? Suspicious, don't you think?
It's a game people, get over it. Bo's apologized, move on.

  • Paula - 11 years ago

I am not even a Husker fan, but feel that the Husker fans are so fickle. They are the best fans in the nation when they are winning, but when they lose a game, they turn on your in a dime. Is this a good example for our kids? Also, Tommy Frazier should keep his rants to himself, as he was a Head Coach at Doane and was run out of that town because he was such a terrible coach. I don't think his teams won any games. He has absolutely no room to talk.
Coaching is a hard profession and they only get respect when they are winning.

  • Duane - 11 years ago

Having it put all over the media both local and national is punishment enough.

  • HuskerEd - 11 years ago

Bo is a football fan like anyone else, and has emotion and passion that backs it up. I dont blame him for addressing other fans' rants against him and the program. I would rather have a coach that stands up for himself and his team, and tells it like it is. Some lousy person releases a video of him two years after the fact, just to make him look bad.... i say it is a non-issue. We shouldn't be held accountable for what we say in private, he gets free speech just like any other citizen.

  • Jacky conrad - 11 years ago

I believe Coach Pelini should have to take the microphone at every home game and apologize for his actions for the rest of the year to the fans . The behavior of a leader off camera is just as important as it is when the camera is rolling.

  • Dee - 11 years ago

First off, there should be some sort of punishment....firing however, I believe is not the answer. If our children use that language we punish. As a figure head, I think we need to have him take ownership with a fine or something....have him pay for a walk on's school tuition, etc. for this year! However, I do firmly believe that the person that brought the tape forward was holding it for the opportune time to release it and I personally feel like it's a vendetta more than anything else to get back at him for something....that is plain childish in its own right. If was truly offensive, it should have come out in 2011....but then we won that game so what fun would that have been? Shame on whomever held if for this long!

  • Gary York - 11 years ago

People say they want things done the right way, but they are quick to excuse bad behavior. Are Nebraska fans really OK as long as we win? Kinda sounds like it.

  • Mike - 11 years ago

I agree with Debra when she says Husker fans are fair-weathered. We shouldn't all suffer from short term memory loss of what it was like when Bill Callahan was here. I remember the excitement of bringing in the West Coast offense only to see that go by the wayside. Remember, it's not easy to get well established head coaches to come to Nebraska, regardless of our tradition. Times have changes and recruting has gotten harder. So we rolled the dice and went with a guy who didn't have head coaching experience and he put guys on his staff who were considered innovative. Only time will tell if it will work or not. There are numerouls success stories out there of other programs who have done the same thing. Of course, there are probably just as many, if not more, failures. Just remember that there are numeous storied programs out there who have never won a National Championship and we have five. Dr. Osborne struggled at times (even though he always had winning seasons and I don't ever recall him getting blown out) and even considered leaving Nebraska. I am not saying that history will repeat itself. All I can say, things could be worse. But you don't fire a coach for something he said two years ago. Bo has changed since then. His demeanor on the sidelines has improved 100%. The decision to fire, if that is what ends up happening, should be based on performance on the field AND in the classroom. Don't forget, these are Student-Athletes (emphasis on Student first) playing on Saturday, not professionals.

  • Huskerev - 11 years ago

Bo should not be punished.... the person that released the tape to of all places Deadspin.com should be punished, real classy! The problem I have is The World Hearld and Lincoln Journal bit. This is not news worthy! What ever happen to verify, verify, verify know and name your source. If Bo goes good luck getting another coach at UNL. Move on Huskers do not perputate this sophmoric behavior.

  • Debra Prochaska - 11 years ago

If there are any reprocussions for something Bo said two years ago in a private meeting with people he thought he could trust, then we may give up our season tickets. The fans of Nebraska are fare weathered and I cuss them many times. If he said it in public that would be another matter. The cowardly person that released that video should come forward. See if he/she gets another job in the State. Who would trust him/her.
