Should the deputy lose his job?

Most definitely he should lose his job. When it comes to law enforcement, credibility is everything. Perhaps if the officer indicated in his original statements that the facts were a haze in a chaotic situation, sure this would be a free pass. However, he in detail described pulling the victim from the car. This is not a miscommunication, a got lost in the chaos and confusion; this was a bold faced lie to bolster recognition. Sure law enforcement can often be a thankless job, but you cannot under any circustances circumvent the truth. When before the courts the easiest defense now will be that maybe the officer didn't get the facts quite right, as it was proven to the public in this case. In hindsight I am sure this deputy regrets speaking with the media, the fact that the Sheriff's Dept did not use a PR manager or investigate prior to the gloat show is a shame.

The deputy should loose his gun, Car & police power for 30 days. Spend that 30 days in the motor pool washing and changing oil on county cars. I'll bet he would keep the facts straight from now on. Loose his job no.
