Why invite the press if they're not permitted to report on it?
Does he think his winning personality, superior intelligence, and extraordinary powers of persuasion can win them over? No doubt.
A legend in his own mind.

It was very clearly pointed out that the reason to go was "respect of the office." This is the only valid reason to attend. That makes no implications of intent. Based on my knowledge of the attendees they are all respective, thoughtful, and honorable men.

Off the record doesn't really have to be "off the record". There are lots of ways to report. Additionally, Like Krauthammer probably did, suble negotiating points can be made as well as getting an idea of the White House strategy (or lack thereof).

Right....who are these so-called "conservative reporters"? That label is almost an oxymoron. And what would Obama say to them that would help him politically? It would be a pointless meeting.

This is the most manipulative man to ever hold the office of the presidency and if anyone for a second thinks this was anything other than him trying to gather information as to what conservative reporters want to ask him so as he can then get his staff to start writing spin stories for him to use when actually asked these questions then you're trusting a man that cannot be trusted anymore! That's just my "opinion" though.

Why off-the-record? After the presser he had yesterday, he doesn't deserve off-the-record, he should have invited the conservatives to the presser and alternated between the sycophants and the conservatives. You'll notice he didn't even allow Ed Henry, of Fox News. to ask a question. He calls John Boehner a coward? WHo the coward is should be obvious to the most casual observer.

I dislike OTR meetings with media types and, more so with Obama and cadre, but generally.
On the other hand, Obama is so thin-skinned he cannot withstand hard questioning in a public venue. If he could stand it OTR, then it might be a useful exercise. The question for me is whether this indolent, incurious and narrow mind would or did learn anything, or did it simply lecture and justify its current stance.
I expect the latter, but I am not utterly without hope, yet.

The Presidential office is the people's office and everything said in that office should be open to the people. Conservative journals should not be set up by Obama.

I think the fault is in agreeing to be part of a group selected for its political leaning. An off the Record meeting with a mixed group has, as you stated, historical precedence. It's the constant classifying into this group or that group that is part of the problem. Obama is President of the United States, not just a part of it.
