Reading the whole series was a complete waste of time, you can't imagine how Tris died, what's the essence of surviving all along?, and the crippled David who killed her parents murdered her , just at the final moments.i wish I spent my time reading something worthwhile, her death is too fictitious

  • Gabby Pence - 5 years ago

Here is my solution, and this is for my own SANITY,which has sadly been threatened after the death of tris whom I LOVED! IM ONLY 13 AND I WAS BALLING MY EYES OUT OVER A BOOK WHERE MY FAVORITE AND INSPIRATIONAL CHARACTER DIED! But anyways, I’m gonna pretend it didn’t happen. Since it’s the end of the books, in my head tris and Tobias lived and SCREW CALEB. IDC OK! It makes me feel much better to think tris is ok and with Tobias and Caleb is dead and that tris and Tobias went zip lining to spread HIS ashes.

  • anonymous - 6 years ago

does anyone even BOTHER to actually READ how Tris died??!! SHE SURVIVED THE DEATH SERUM AND WAS SHOT FOR IT BY DAVID. IT WAS A COMPLETELY REALISTIC ENDING!!!! Guys, writing a book takes time. and some of you BLABBERING about how crazy the way she died was, are the same people who say they love tris's selflessness. its the same selflessness which led her to do this. stop being a pansycake, and get a LIFE!

  • I hate Veronica Roth now - 7 years ago

I hate her. There was no reason for her to kill Tris at ALL. Veronica, you need to stop with this bullshit "well she had to die so she could know what true sacrifice meant". I feel like you just got lazy and didn't feel like continuing the series, so you decided to kill Tris off and call up a shitty excuse for it. You should've AT LEAST let Tobias die just so he could be with Tris. I was on the part where they first met David and decided to read the ending. I was so pissed, I dropped the book and returned it to the library. This would've been my favorite series, better than the Hunger Games (which is my favorite book trilogy, I recommend you read it) even! I just hate the author and the trilogy. The ending was shit and Veronica can shove that excuse up her ass.

  • m - 7 years ago

a couple years late to the party, i know. but i was so affected by this - sobbing hysterically, considering a rule for myself to vet books' endings before reading from now on - that i had to go online and make sure that i wasn't just crazy, that other people were as destroyed as i was.

i'm not mad at the author, nor do i think that the ending made the other books pointless or ruined them for me completely, but it was just SUCH a negative experience that it did cancel out the joy of the other two a little bit. i read 'divergent' & 'insurgent' last night, & 'allegiant' tonight. maybe if i hadn't read them all so close together, it might have done less to overshadow the first two. or maybe it would have been worse, if they weren't so fresh in my mind. i don't know.

there was absolutely no reason for this to happen. we didn't learn any more about tris's character when david shot her than we'd already learned when she took on the suicide mission of going into the room instead of caleb... which btw was unsatisfying in itself - he *wanted* to die!

    :(

if i could take back reading 'allegiant', i would, but i'm definitely happy i read the series. thank you, veronica roth, for a mostly-good experience. :)

Bummer ending!! I hate crying! (Sigh!) Why do I get so attached to fictional characters? Why? I'm such a weirdo lol. My week is ruined :( I love the books though. It's was a nice reality escape..until the end.....

  • JP - 9 years ago

I am just as disappointed as everyone else about Tris's death. Hopefully another book comes out to redeem the injustice you have caused to Tobias and your readers.

    SOMEONE SAID:
"Why the heck would you build up such a loving relationship between Tris and Four, just to freaking kill her and cause Tobias more pain than he has already been through and ruin the whole reading experience for your readers!"

PSHHH... YOU MIGHT AS WELL ASK WHY THE HELL YOU WERE BORN IF YOU'RE JUST GONNA DIE SOMEDAY....!
WANT ME TO DO THE HONORS?? YEAH, I MEAN FRIGGIN' KILL YOU... 'CAUSE I'D LOVE TO...
I'D REALLY LOVE TO DO THAT, PATHETIC...!!!

  • Stephanie - 9 years ago

IF VERONICA CAN READ YOUR COMMENTS RIGHT NOW, SHE MIGHT BE ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING, BECAUSE IF I WAS THE AUTHOR, I WOULD.
    IT'S JUST PATHETIC...!
IT'S A BOOK... IT'S FICTION... IT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE.
THERE'S NO BEATRICE PRIOR, SO WHY DOES IT MATTER SO MUCH IF THIS CHARACTER DIES IN THE STORY?!
SOME OF YOU SAID YOU ACTUALLY CRIED... HA-HA-HA!!
HOW CAN A SANE PERSON CRY FOR SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T EVEN EXIST?!
    YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK!!!
IF YOU'RE READING THIS COMMENT RIGHT NOW AND YOU TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH ME, THAT COULD ONLY MEAN ONE THING...

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .

IT MEANS YOU'RE JUST ONE OF THOSE PATHETIC PEOPLE WHO DOESN'T KNOW WHAT REALITY IS...!
    GET A LIFE!!! :P

I am royally mad...ok here is an easy fix. Write another book where someone took her to the fringe and heals her wounds, making the person who died looked like Tris...bring her back and let her and tobias live happily ever after. Then i might like the books again.

  • SimplyPerf - 10 years ago

I am so devastated about the ending. I was so attached to everyone, the factions, the setting it was like an escape to another place when i read the book. Such a great trilogy better than most because i felt i got to know the characters really well. I was kind of sad that Caleb was going to die but he deserves it. When Tris was surrounded by the death serum but survived i was happy i couldn't have hopped for a better ending. I thought the rest of the book was going to be about everyone reuniting. But TRIS HAD TO DIE. I WAS CRYING no one i my family reads as much as i do and they didn't understand. Veronica Roth hadn't killed Tris then this would be my favorite trilogy . AS much as i HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE THE Ending. I understand why Veronica Roth had such a heart wrenching ending, it truly is a different ending from many other trilogy's i have. And i absolutely agree a with what sophs009008 and many other people have said but then Tris died for her brother and in her fear landscape, she kills herself instead of her family, and it just fits with her death. It was a good book because i DID NOT expect Tris dying but it would have been so much better if Tris had not died.

    thanks for reading

  • Madison - 10 years ago

I hated it i thought tobias and her would win onl injured a little and grow up without factions for the rest of their lives and have kids and stuff

  • Jill - 10 years ago

Wow. What a disappointment! I just couldn't believe that it wasn't a mistake and she had really been killed off! I kept waiting for them to pull out a new syrum that would revive her. When they didn't I was very upset and had to put the book down for 2 days before I could finish it. After reading the ending, I went from loving the books and hoping the series could continue beyond three books to feeling strongly that it had been a waste of time and money. As someone else stated, people don't read fiction for reality! There is enough reality in our lives. The story could have been ended so many different ways and been so much more satisfying.

And what Veronica Roth says about why she killed off Tris is just BS! It doesn't ring true at all! She says the point was " to show how Tris understood the value of life and still sacrificed herself for her brother " (paraphrased) but tris had already accomplished that when she took her brother's place. Having David shoot her and kill her wasn't about sacrificing herself - it was about shock value. You sell a lot more books when everyone is talking about the shocking ending.

I truly hope the movie chooses a different ending. I'll wait until the third movie is out to find out if it has the same ending before I bother seeing the second and third.

If asked, I would tell others to skip this series. Having spent so much time getting to know Tris and knowing what she thought and felt, When she died, it felt like a friend had died. Obviously, the feelings pass rather quickly but you are still left depressed and dissatisfied. Not worth it. I was reading another series of Roth's and I don't think I'll bother with it. or anything else she writes.

  • Michelle - 10 years ago

Gutted...the ending was so disappointing. I in away have lost my faith in picking up a book and reading, especially as we turn to books for the fantasy. Especially for book genre such like this. I enjoyed this first two books, but left empty and feeling cheated at the ending. If the author could provide an alternative that would be awesome. In addition I really hope the movie is a happily ever after for tris and four, otherwise it will be throughly disappointing also.

  • Wendy - 10 years ago

I truly hated the ending.. I was expecting that she would have survived being shot. Figured she would have been seriously hurt. I guess I was hoping for the happy ending. I have went out on the web, and have read an alternated ending from someone else where she did survive. They did get married, and Four was the assistant helping the city move forward. Where they had kids, and she finally forgave her brother. If this ending had really happened I believe the series could have continued longer. I saw TNT bought rights, and will be airing. Would be nice if they change ending. They could continue their story!!! It shouldn't have ended the way it did!! I was really disappointed!!!

  • Anonymous - 10 years ago

I just read all 3 books and have never felt more betrayed by an author. I have gotten rid of the books and returning Four without having read it and returning the DVD without having watched it. It sounds funny, but I'm having trouble picking up a new book to read (different author, different genre). I have honestly lost my desire to read.

  • Krist - 10 years ago

The fact of the matter is People are mad because in life we all have obstacles and challenges we must overcome. Yet, we all want someone by our side to help us through tough times. By killing off Tris, Roth message is that we are alone in this world. Tris dying to understand sacrifice for love is a terrible excuse for a death. Tobias is truly the character everyone relates to the most, in that we all come from a hard life. No one is "genetically perfect" like Tris! Therefore, killing tris has squashed the hopes and dreams of a bright future for man kind because life will always go on and there will always be evil in the world but if you don't have someone special... You are alone.

  • Nadine Cinnamon - 10 years ago

I have read all the comments and I agree with what everyone is saying... I just want to add that it hurts me to think of Tobias with someone else other than Tris... Also bugs me that she gave her life for Caleb, a character I never liked. If you ask me, since Tris survived the "death serum" the author should have found a way for Tris to have killed David first and then released the memory serum.... David was responsible for too many deaths to have allowed him to live. on with his memory reset!! Tobias was right to jump David at Uriah's death. I seriously hope the ending is different in the upcoming movies!!!

  • Tim - 10 years ago

All I am asking is in the movie there is some mystery to tris being alive.maybe we see her wake up on an operation table win some heavy breathing because after messing up the next page button on my e reader and expecting the best book ending ever I got someone who I had gotten so attached to dead WHAT all I need is some questioning and my desperate brain will say tris lives I shall prove my dedecation to this cause by telling you that I wrote about 750 words and I accidentally reset the page

  • Missy - 10 years ago

Just finished Allegiant. The most disappointing ending I've EVER experienced. Plots are supposed to move to a resolution whether it is happy or sad. This ending did not resolve with any satisfaction. Tris dying served no purpose and left the reader confused and bitter. Question: Why was a scene included where Tobias teaches Caleb to shoot a gun, if he wasn't going to save Tris in the weapons room? He could have died saving her. Redemption for Caleb and peace of mind for all of the readers instead of mourning a senseless death of the main character. Change the movie's ending please, although the damage is done.

  • For Four and Tris - 10 years ago

I am so mad about how she ended the book to me the reason is bull crap!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the first two books but the third book was a wast of my time. i agree with almost everyone on here that she could have done a better job a lot better job. in a way i can see ware she is coming from. But Tris deserved to live. Veronica needs to make a 4th book and somehow bring back Tris or something because this is not an ending this is a jumbled mess of meaningless crap. Talk about selflessness i wonder which faction she would be from. I bet she is erudite and a selfish person who does not care for anyone but herself. The ending needs to change i am not going to ever watch the movie unless something changes!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sarah - 10 years ago

How can she (Veronica Roth) be so cruel!! I love reading novels and how you fall in love with the characters and how they make you feel and suck you into the fantasy of their little world. She should realize that being an author so why kill off tris when she made us love her so much and poor tobias. I'm devastated. I hope they change the ending in the movies.

  • Kora - 10 years ago

The ending was very unexpected but it was still a good ending. its a book so theres no point crying over it.. its called fiction

  • Rosie - 10 years ago

The first two book were pretty good. They were the same sort of story as Hunger Games, only less well written---but with more romance to offset the fact that this was just a formula genre book (dystopian future, metaphors for governemnt corruption and bigotry). The entire third book was pretty bad. The plot twists were dumb and she sabotaged herself by spending most of the book with Tris and Four having problems/ apart, then killing Tris at the end. The only redeemable things about these books were the love story: so what were you thinking? If this was your plan all along, you might have, say--reevaluated it. No one gives a shit about Caleb.

  • DM - 10 years ago

When I started reading Divergent a couple of days ago, I found out that I absolutely loved Roth's writing--fast-paced narrative and just the perfect amount of description, exposition and dialogue. I read Insurgent immediately after that and fell deeply in love with the characters. When I started the 3rd book right after, I had high hopes for an extraordinary ending. But as the rest of her fans have written before me-- gosh, why the hell did I waste my time reading thousands of words and falling in love with Tris and Tobias, just to come to a huge void in the end? It was unsatisfying at best. I was enraged!
What's worse, I couldn't even make myself absorb the rest of the story after Tris got killed. I couldn't make myself care even when Tobias finally zip-lined off the building for Tris. Everything felt like dribble. After her death, I was hoping there was some kind of divergent power or new serum that could bring her back to life.
I understand that putting Tris and Tobias together in the end would be cliche, but give me cliche. Give me the tired gift-wrapped ending most commercial novels' authors reward their readers for staying with the story until the end. I'd even be happier if Roth killed off Tobias at the same time just so their souls would end up together!
I'm definitely not going to recommend the third book to anyone, unless there's an alternate ending...

Veronica Roth should make another book after allegiant where tris lives and tris and four live happily ever after!!!! because I hate the ending in allegiant!! worst ending to a book ever!! I hope in the movie tris doesn't die!!!!

  • Brooklyn - 10 years ago

I HATE THE ENDING IN ALLEGIANT!!!!!!! I hope in the movie tris doesn't die!! I REALLY hoped tris and tobias would live happily ever after!! I'm so mad! I cried a ton when tris died! I felt so bad for four!!!!!

  • Kimmy - 10 years ago

The ending is truly the worst possible ending. Tris could have lived and Roth knows it. I wanted to throw my kindle right after the death and not finish the rest of the book. I kept reading just to hope she didn't die. It was truly heart breaking. Even if the point was to have Tris finally realize what true selflessness is, which she did right before she died, she didn't have to die because she had already realized it! If Roth wanted to make her trilogy memorable, she sure did it, but not in a good way. I will not be watching the movies and I will not be reading any of her future books, ever. I only have terrible memories of the books. The ending to Allegiant completely completely ruined the entire trilogy and all I will be reminded of is the terrible ending. I never want to think about the books again.

  • TRIS - 10 years ago

    Dearest Veronica,
    WHY AM I DEAD?!?
    Sincerely Tris
Ps Tell Tobias I love him❤️

  • nnie - 10 years ago

When I first read the ending I was literally shocked and soooo sad about it. I think I cried so hard I couldn't finish the book at first. After that I had ro read Veronica's explanation about why Tris had to die and now I have to say I can understand it. I really don't like this at all and yet I feel content about it- it just absolutely sticks with her character, it's absolutely something someone like Tris would do. And I think a good author should be able to this too even though it' hard. So before reading Allegiant I thought killing the main character was something no author should be allowed to do but in Allegiant it was somehow fitting. I have to say I can't love the ending but it was so realistic I still liked it although it was sad and ccompletely different from what everyone expected it to be.

  • Anonymous - 10 years ago

You are right that it is impossible to satisfy everybody, but you can satisfy the majority. Even though a very small amount of the readers say that they liked the ending, i do not think that they would have anything against Tris and Tobias living happily ever after. I'm sure that you can tell that the two first books where magnificent. They were masterpieces, and a lot of people agree with that - it's a powerful thing to write a story that can make thousands of people cry, laugh, scream out of anger and even when the character dies, they feel like losing a friend. Now that is power. I really don't understand the "Tris had to die to understand what sacrifice really means" that is pure crap. So what if she finally understood what sacrifice or what life means, is that an excuse to kill her? Is that an excuse to cause Tobias so much pain? Tobias had a tough childhood. He was always acting tough and brave, and that's when he met Tris. She changed him, they fell in love. Their relationship was built up page after page. To be honest, the love between these two was what kept the readers reading. I smiled every time they kissed, just by all these words written, i could feel their love and i understood that this is ment to be. Imagine this triology without any love, it would be boring to read. If it's just killing, injuring, war, killing, injuring, war then it becomes uncomfortable to read. People want to see characters living in a destroyed society, but then making it together with the power of love, faith and forgiveness and living happily ever after. There's no such thing as "sacrificing yourself to understand what sacrifice is" no, no, no Veronica you just ruined the whole triology and i won't be watching the movie if the ending is not changed. Why the heck would you build up such a loving relationship between Tris and Four, just to freaking kill her and cause Tobias more pain than he has already been through and ruin the whole reading experience for your readers! The ending is supposed to be special and bring joy to the reader, not make her or him ending the book feeling empty and depressed! As someone said "this world is already cruel enough, we read to escape" this was not what anyone wanted and i am truly disappointed and really, really mad. This better be changed when the movie comes out or else no one will watch it. I will not read any books written by VR nor will i watch the movie if the ending isn't changed. I agree with Wee Besom, that ending could be something. I'm sorry but you made a huge mistake. Have a good day.

  • Alyx - 10 years ago

when I read insurgent I was like wow but then I read allegiant and I was so upset literally I started crying I mean because what will happen to Tobias now Tris is dead, he wanted to build a life with her and then she is just dead and then 2 years later he still hasn't scattered the ashes which is really sad. because of the way it was written I felt like it was happening to me, all I'm saying is that I hope the movie has a happy ending other wise I wont be able to watch the movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wee Besom - 10 years ago

Well there goes hours of my life I'll never get back!!!! The Divergent book was recommended to me but I waited till I saw the movie before reading it. So impressed with the story I gladly bought the whole series. We read to escape. That is the purpose of books. Veronica Roth had a great idea but she ripped off her fans by killing off the main character. I think she did it because secretly she is in love with Tobias and did not want to share him with Tris. Yes it is her book and yes it is her prerogative to end it how she chooses but she ended her writing career by ignoring what all fans want from a love story! A happy ending!!!!!! Even hunger games supplied us with that even if it wasn't with the "right" person. She should have killed off Tobias as well. Now that would have made sense. She rushed the last book and by letting all the villains live just reinforces her ability to not truly understand what all readers want...victory for the heroes! Life is hard enough without reinforcing it through books. Life is not fair...we get that. Tris finally found the meaning to her life...we get that. But not giving your readers what they want...pure selfishness on the writers part! Shame on you Veronica!!!! Her is an alternate ending where you can redeem yourself...Tris appears dead...same serum Peter slipped her. She is taken away to be studied for having unbelievable human strength. Her death was a lie. She is reunited with Tobias where they live happily ever after...have many children who are strong in mind and body and do good things with our damaged society! It's not too late to redeem yourself and regain back your fan base!!

  • Herbert - 10 years ago

I am pretty dang sure this will make me NEVER EVER want to see the films I am upset about the ending! Why couldn't tris and Tobias have a happy ever after? They could of had a family! I wish Veronica would have ended it where she somehow lived the death serum and then shot David in the arm pressed the button and saved the hole series. And, a little explanation about her resisting the death serum would of been nice !!!!

  • Faith - 10 years ago

These are great books but I am devestated on how they ended. I got the first book on a Thursday and ended it on that Friday. That Friday I bought the second book Insurgent on my iPad because I couldn't wait to get it on Saturday, finished that on Saturday night. Got the last book and read it and now I am in a funk throwing to figure out how they could kill Tris after establishing such a heart stopping relationship between Tobias and Tris. I wanted them to grow up out of the Factions, have kids, get married and her to live her life the washer parents would have wanted her to. I am in such a funk I'm moping around the house, didn't eat dinner and I refuse to go see the next movies coming out because I know what is going to happen... Tris can't die in the movies! She can't or else my world will crumble. Poor Tobias (Theo James in the movie) he has to live life without her and after all the people he lost! I can not deal right now!

  • Charlotte - 10 years ago

I think people need to calm down. Veronica Roth invested so much of her time into these books and she did start to wonder if killing Tris was the right thing to do, and it was. Instead of mourning over the loss of the fairy tail ending try to see how beautiful and poetic her death was. When I read it I was crying both for the loss of Tris and her willingness to sacrifice herself for her brother. The fact that she made it through the death serum means she didn't want to die, it wasn't like her previous acts of `selflessness` in Insurgent that were actually self destructive. She was being truly brave and selfless driven by love. During her near execution she cried out "I'm not done yet!" realising she wasn't ready to die because it would be for all the wrong reasons. Then when she was shot and saw her mother and asked her "Am I done yet?" Meant she had made peace with herself, she was no longer fighting and trying to figure out her identity and where she fit. She knew. I think it was a really beautiful and dignified end worthy of such an influential character. And come on just the fact that the final book was dual perspective and the way Tobias was thinking the possibility of actually having a normal future with Tris was too good to be true. Even Tris was thinking that they'll finally find out what their like together when their lives aren't constantly in danger. All those things sent up red flags in my mind, I knew something big was going to go down, it was just a matter of will it be Tris or Tobias?

  • Cydney - 10 years ago

I'm soooo sad right now, when she died I threw my book at the wall because I was mad. I really wish she didn't have to die, I wanted her and Tobias to stay together, it was meant to be. Since she died I actually wish I didn't start to read the books, and when the 3rd movie comes out and my friend watches it before me, I'm going to ask them if she dies and if she does, I'm not watching the movie. I think the author made a really bad decision, and she should change that decision for the movie to make up her mistake. I thought her series were supposed to be good with a happy ending so the readers could remember the book in a good way. Tris and I are really alike and now it's all ruined because she died

  • Maddie - 10 years ago

I HATED THE ENDING OF THIS BOOK. I AM OUTRAGED. it is ridiculous to work up a relationship so much through a book for it just to be completely destroyed in the end.

  • brieanna - 10 years ago

I just read the books (all 3) in a couple of days. I am an avid reader(borderline obsessive). I had no clue about these books until I saw the commercials for the movie. I got the books and flew through them absolutely enthralled! I just finished the series tonight. after tris died I could only skim the rest of the book. I was hoping for the fairytale ending! That being said the ending surprised me I am very good at guessing plots early on. For that reason alone I was impressed with how easily the author dumped that on me. I just wished she didn't have Tobias and tris reconcile if she was going to kill her off any way. I AM SO SAD! I read faster than others so no one I know has finished them yet. I just had to see if there were other people as upset as I am (just to make sure I hadn't taken my obsession too far)glad to know there are tons of like minded people out there. I was emotionally invested in tris now I don't know what to think.

I hate the ending of Allegiant. Hope the movie do better and change it, pls pls don't follow it. It was soooooo upsetting when I finished reading it. Please rewrite the ending...:(

I AM SO FLIPPING MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SO AGREE WITH EVERYONE WHO IS ANGRY AT THE ENDING. WHY THE HELL DID SHE KILL TRIS RIGHT AFTER SHE HAD PERFECTED TRIS AND TOBIAS' RELATIONSHIP. WHY DIDN'T CALEB DID, HE DESERVED IT. UGHHHHHHH. VERONICA JUST RUINED THE WHOLE SERIES FOR ME. I WISH I HAD NEVER READ THE THIRD BOOK, I DON'T EVEN WANT TO WATCH THE FILMS KNOWING WHAT HAPPENS TO TRIS. I REALLY HOPE THAT THE DIRECTORS CHANGE THE ENDING (I know that there is very little chance of that happening) BECAUSE I WON'T WATCH THE FILMS OTHERWISE. VERONICA PROBABLY JUST WANTED A DIFFERENT ENDING TO ALL OTHER TRILOGIES, SHE WASN'T EVEN THINKING ABOUT HER READERS. I THINK THAT IF MOST READERS HADN'T READ THE THIRD BOOK BEFORE WATCHING THE FIRST FILM, IT WOULD OF MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE BOX OFFICE OF THEY WOULD OF. I WOULDN'T OF WATCHED THE FIRST FILM IT I KNEW WEEKS AT WOULD HAPPEN. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE ANGRY. sorry about me going on a bit, I just really hate what veronica Roth has done to so many readers, she has made them angry and upset. I bet she will probably complain about all of the readers being so hateful about the ending, but it's her fault that readers hate her, it her fault that so many readers are mad, and its her fault that readers won't watch the films now. If she hadn't of killed off tris then this would be my favorite trilogy, but she ruined that for me. I don't get all this 'well she had to die so she could know what true sacrifice meant' rubbish. Tris knew what real sacrifice meant, she had to die to know. Tobias and tris could of lived together forever happily like the majority wanted, but oh no Veronica Roth had to kill her off didn't she? I will never forget this ending, I hope other authors don't follow the same path as Veronica, cuz she made a HUGE mistake. Thanks for reading and I hope you agree with me.

I would have been fine with killing off the main character if the books were written in 3rd person. But 3rd person is harder to write. You don't kill off the narrator. It just isn't fair to the reader. It is manipulation.

I HATED THE ENDING LIKE REALLY WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FOURTRIS AND HE CANNOT BE WITH CHRISTINA LIKE REALLY I REALLY LOVED ALL THE BOOKS BUT WHEN I READ RHE END OF ALLEGIANT I DIDNT CRY BUT I SHREDED THE BOOK APART I WAS DEVISTATED THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN I HATE THIS SO MUCH AND WOULD NOT RECCOMENT THIS BOOK FOR ANYONE

Went to see the movie last week and thought it was terrifically done. In fact, it was so good my grandson wants to see it again this weekend. Of course, he hasn't read all three books and I couldn't spoil it for him by telling him the ending. I love books especially series...the character become l family and I re-read the books. For example, every time a new Hungery Games movie comes out I re-read the trilogy (yeah, three times). So this week I re-read Divergent to see exactly how the book and movie differed, then re-read Insurgent. All the way through, I tried to imagine how it would be made into the movie. Now I'm reading Allegiant and it's extremely hard. The background noise is constantly she dies, she dies, she dies. I don't know if I can finish the book, because it's like mourning the lose of a friend. I keep hoping Hollywood changes the ending otherwise I won't be able to sit through the movie. I've watched "tear jerkers" like Steel Magnolias and cry every time Julia Roberts's character dies and still watch it again. Don't know the difference but I keep rewriting the ending. Tris needs to live.

I can't believe this ending. After this whole war, after everything between Tobias and Tris she dies! That is something that I believe was uncalled for and completely drastic. Everyone was pulling for their happily ever after! What will happen to Four? As readers we need a complete ending to continue with our lives and to be able to have a level of satisfaction. That was not what I needed at all! I loved this book series. It was perfect and I believe that a series that perfect deserves a perfect ending too.

Saw the movie today and loved it. Read the first two books in two days. I was almost done with book three, Allegiant, today. In anticipation of the seeing the movie, I put off reading the last 50 or so pages until tonight. Finished reading the book a couple of hours ago and I am so overwhelmed with sadness. I cannot believe that the author killed Tris off. It has really ruined the whole reading experience. Not sure I will see the other two movies, knowing that Tris will die. Not even sure I can recommend any of my friend's watching the first movie, knowing what will happen in the final one. A very sad evening.

I don't dislike Veronica Roth for doing what she did to Tris, however, I don't agree with it. I read the trilogy during the weekend as I could not put the books down. Tobias and Tris both found personal struggle throughout the trilogy and found struggle in their relationship as a result. After putting us through so much during their relationship, it would have been nice to see them end up together. It was understandable that Tris was Abnegation, throughout, and felt like she needed avenge her parents deaths against the people that killed them but again, why Tris? Why hurt Tobias further? A man that has seen so much pain and turmoil in his whole life and he ends up with his mother that abandoned him? Again, I do not agree with the ending and it would have been more just for Tris to live. After wanting to die, taking herself to the Eurdite headquarters and then deciding she wanted to live, only to die? I'm not sure I will understand the folks that think that her death was justified, so young. She must have known this was going to happen when she let Tobias, Christina, Cara, Amar and Peter go to the City. She must have known this was the last time she would see them. She must have known it was going to come to this, she wouldn't have stayed back with Caleb if that was the case. Caleb deserved to die, making up for his betrayal to Tris, to his family. I also don't understand the tyrant, David, behind the death of many people including most of the Abengation gets to live? Though he may not remember and he will live a new life not knowing of the concept of genetic damage, it again is not just. I also agree with most people that though it is in black and white in the book, the ending to the movie should be changed. I am not sure that I have stopped crying and a trilogy I loved so much reading became just a pile of books I would rather burn. I have decided to write a new book myself, bringing Tris back to life. Where Matthew created a serum that would heal Tris from the inside out however rendering her paralyzed and completely helpless. This serum would remove her from her Divergent abilities. The serum must be given right before she goes to the Weapons room so she only has minutes before it starts to affect her therefore giving her enough time for her Divergence to stop her from succumbing to the death serum. Once she is shot, she presses the green button and now she has not only lost her memory. Her eyes go dark, the vision of her mother, her heart stops as her mother walks away a flutter of her heart starts again, however, the serum that allows for her to heal from the inside leaves her paralyzed, much like the supposed death serum Jeneane Matthews was to inject into Tris in the Euridite Headquarters. Everyone but Matthew knows she is dead, her cold body laying on the cold table in the morgue for Tobias and all to view. They walk away, but no one sees her cremation, no one sees Tris's body afterward..........hence the new ending and a new book.......

im not going to become a hater for the way the book ended but that doesnt mean i have to like it either. I know V has talked about the end of Tris' story but so young is that really the case. its her book so she can end it any way she likes but dying without another word to Four just seems harsh. the world we already live in is cruel most of us read books to escape :/

  • Hater86 - 10 years ago

Older reader here and have read a number of book where the main character was killed off. This last book was rushed and in my opinion and money grab. I wont be seeing the movie I just feel it was a very sophomoric move on V's part. Wish her all the luck in the future but will be taking any other books she writes with a grain of salt.

  • maggie - 10 years ago

The ending didn't make the book pointless!! The entire point is that she died for a good cause. I think people would've been upset with Tris letting Caleb sacrifice himself because it just doesn't fit her personality. Also a happy ending would have felt wrong. Read this by Veronica Roth.

its not that she died... its more that because she died there really is no resolution to the story. it made me dislike the whole series. let down.

  • bom - 10 years ago

WHY IS EVERYONE SO MAD THAT TRIS DIED!? WHY ARE THEY ANGRY AT VERONICA!? THAT JUST PROVES THAT SHE IS A GOOD WRITER BECAUSE SHE CAN MAKE SO MANY PEOPLE CRY! I DIDNT IN THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS AND NO ONE HATED ON THAT AUTHOR!

  • izzie - 10 years ago

well, i think it's a great ending. it shows Tobias' courage, to keep on going even though what happened to tris was shocking. i think she was great, no doubt, but the majority of books these days have happy endings. Although... i wish Uriah didn't die :(

  • madi - 10 years ago

the ending is sooo stupid. I can not believe that she is dead. One of the things I loved about the book was Tris and Tobias and now that she is dead I will not be reading any of the other books about Tobias. Roth did not make a smart move here. killing off the main character is the dumbest thing anyone can do!

  • Diane - 10 years ago

I devoured this entire series in less than a week. I started it because I was excited to see the movie in March and wanted to have read the books before then, like I did with Hunger Games. I thought it was kind of weird that we suddenly get Tobias' POV but some of it made sense with the split in where Tris and Tobias were at different times. I've seen it before so once I got used to Tobias, I was ok with it. However, the ending is what killed this entire series for me. I almost stopped reading after I found out Tris really did die. I'm not sure how I made it through the rest of the book. I can appreciate Roth having Tobias overcome his fear height just once with Tris' ashes but that just seemed like a cop-out to me. Yes the world they lived in was violent and uncertain but after all the other deaths and characters who lost loved ones, Tris and Tobias at least deserved to have a chance at living together. I felt his lost most profoundly and really think he was just going through the motions of life after that. He was never going to find another love with what he had with Tris but even Christina didn't do anything else. Seems the only one who got a decent ending was Zeke and Shauna. Truthfully, I don't think I will go see this series now because I don't think I can stand the knowledge that Tris falling in love will come to naught and Tobias will forever be lonely, even if he's not alone.

Qkay, I loved the trilogy and I was super excited to read Allegiant and bought it as soon as it came out. I was extremely upset. I was in love with the first two books and Tris was my favorite protagonist, narrowly beating Harry Potter. Anyways, I think the whole book was rushed and just thrown together. I get the moral, but I think she should have just been seriously injured and woken up to Four in a hospital during a peace time and maybe shared her story? Not to mention Four getting with Christina??? I was furious about that one. I still like the first two books, but I won't read them anymore. I encourage my friends to borrow my first two books but make them promise not to read the third one, to just leave the series open. I absolutely refuse to let anyone else borrow Allegiant from me. It was the worst closing I have read in my entire life and I hate it with a passion. Just kind of left me feeling betrayed by Veronica Roth.

  • Emily Claypool - 10 years ago

I read the Hunger Games series and i lived it! I thought nothing could beat it! I was told by me cousin to read Divergent and I loved i! It blew Hunger GAmes out of the water! I loved the first two books and i was warned about the third one and that i would cry. But they also said it was good! I read allegiant in one day! I loved the book it was when i fully understood the connection between Tobias and Tris. I am not gonna say that the book was horrible because it wasn't. I just felt sad/ mad about the ending. Although i am glad that Tris sacrificed herself for a good a reason rather than like the Insurgent. It was a good book but i am just sad it was not the ending i protected. I actually cried

  • Janell - 10 years ago

The whole book was annoying. Once they kill Tris (which made the first two books pointless) the rest of the book was really boring and kept droning on and on. I agree with other posts. This book was written in a choppy way that made the characters not match up to what we as readers had known the characters to be. The death was not even written in a way where you could respect it (think Gladiator or Braveheart), it was just kind of thrown in there to finally end the series. I was not heart broken, nor did I cry because I knew something bad was coming judging by all the reviews. However, I will NOT be reading any more books written by Veronica Roth. Under pressure she buckled and delivered a crap book. I'll save my money for a better author.

I cannot believe that Veronica kills tris in the end! i had actually started to like her in the last book, and then she dies so quickly! i mean, cmon!!! she overcame the truth serum and i was like "yes she is going to live!" and then david has to shoot her i mean seriously! i didnt even want to read the rest of the book! i wish she had written an alternate ending or something because i hated this one. and she didnt just kill tris, tobias was in a horrible place in the end! i actually liked his chracter a lot! god why! i wish i hadnt even started reading allegiant and had stopped at insurgent, when they were all happy...ish. when i first got the book all i was thinking was "yes!!! i get to see tris and tobias live happily ever after! but then when i heard that tris des, i didnt want to read anymore. it made me think about the book in a whole different way, and it wasnt good. this was the stupidest most unsatisfactory ending i have ever read! i mean at least in mockingjay peeta and katniss survive and you can imagine them living happily after that. uhhg. i wish she had never written this last book! During the first two, i thought it would be my favorite series. but after the last one, its not even close. which really sucks because it was one of the first books i read with romance and adventure and everything so perfect... but the ending was so annoying, i cried not because tris died, but because my fairytale ending would never come true! WHHHHYYYYYYYYYYY :'( i get that she knew she couldnt please all of her fans, but i am positive NONE of us wanted tris to die and tobias to get all depressed and sad. UUUUHHHHHGGGGG SERIOUSLY WHY DID I EVEN BUY THIS LAST BOOK!!!!!! i reaaalllly wish i had jsut stopped at insurgent and imagined the rest of the world... tris and tobias and their friends (not caleb) living out in the woods in a little village together. the ending was so unsatisfactory, i mean seriously!?! tris has to find herself and realize that she hasnt let go of her parents or something and she wants to make them proud!?! why cant tobias just help her get through it!! uhhhg most dissapointing ending ever. i mean the actual writing wasnt bad, but what happened in the book was a horrible choice by veronica. ok this rant was really long but i am so f*cking pissed. i had such high hopes for this book, but now...

I understand but the entire book was choppy and rushed. She Turned Tobias into a whiny 12 year old girl, killed the main characters for no reason, pulling a bullshit story twist in that leave the other two books irrelevant and then in the end Tris just gives up, going against the entire lesson of the story. I actually respected the author but if you can't even capture YOUR OWN CHARACTERS then there is no point to the book. I felt like I was reading a poorly drafted beginners fanfiction instead of a reward winning author. The problem isn't that the book is a disappointment to the trilogy, but a disappointment to the author and for the readers. It isn't wrong for people to expect better for a best-selling trilogy. The point is she left too many loose ends and unanswered questions. It is her book, but that doesn't mean that she can just disregard everything the series and Tris stood for.

  • team tris - 10 years ago

I just really cannot stand how the series ended. I loved Divergent and Insurgent! I had really high hopes for Allegiant and couldn't wait to read it! I don't understand Roth's reason for killing the main character of the book. Yeah, she figured out who she was and her journey was over, but did it have to be over over?! Like seriously! She didn't have to make Tris die for readers to understand who she really was! I kept expecting Tobias was dreaming or some miraculous thing would happen and Tris wouldn't be dead, but no... the predictable ending never came and I could hardly even finish reading the book because I was, and still am, extremely mad and just didn't even care anymore about what happened to anybody else... why set up Tris to be so awesome and then kill her? what did that show readers? I just wanted the predictable ending that would have made me glad I read the series. I didn't want to be taught a life lesson. I hope they change the ending when they make the movie like they did with Dear John. Sorry for being rude... I get a little carried away. I think Veronica Roth is a good author, just made a bad decision, that's all.

Every one is leaving lengthy paragraphs, but all I can say is, , that's pretty much it. There's a book dropping to the floor somewhere in there. Also (not the words i'm thinking(you can imagine, but I'm pretty sure you'll get real close to the right words)) darn Jeanine and Marcus, and shoot, really?!?!?!?!?!?! Killing Tris isn't a good idea, youll have angry mobs surrounding you everywhere, atleast you should have severely injured tris, not KILLED HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i read some of the comments and i agree i red all of the books and i dont know if i can watch the movie knowing all she has done and she will die in the end she even makes it through the deat serum and u make her get shot u couldnt of make her get shot in the leg twice and said the heck with it i cant stop crying abou it i loved the book because of the bond Tris and Tobias had i loved the adventure and the romance of the book but i hated the ending i was hoping i would see Tris and Tobias continue their relationship and be together but i cant see tris and tobias be together if their is no Tris i know veronica couldnt satisfy everyones hopes but i know alot of us didnt want tris to die i hated the ending i wanted to see them together thanks for the terrble ending i couldnt be more upset

I was soooo looking forward to the movies...until now. I am not sure how I can watch Divergent knowing that Tris is going to die in the end. I am still heart broken over the ending. Maybe I can hold onto the idea that the producers of the movies will initiate a different ending...but its highly doubtful. All together the trilogy was captivating and I hope Ms. Roth can make up for this in her future works.

  • Lee - 10 years ago

This is very hard for me to write because I really loved Divergent.
I started to write this several times and erased it all and started over.
I can see where the Author was trying to go but it was all too much, it's all a big jumbled mess and she tries to make it into some kind of morality play by destroying the life of the two main characters.
There were so many other ways she could have gone with this story to make it all have meaning.
In the end this is no Romeo and Juliet ending where you are devastated, heart broken, and yet in love with the story all at the same time, it is just senseless.

I don't think I will read anymore books by Veronica Roth books for a few years.
She could learn a thing or two from Stephenie Meyer, Rachel Hawkins, or Julie Kagawa!

A lot of people are hating on Veronica Roth for the way she ended Allegiant, I see where they're coming from because as a fan I had thought that she and Tobias would finally have a happily ever after, the peaceful time they have always wanted together. But then I didn't mind the ending, once I got over the fact that Tris, who I had grown very close too with her narrating and thoughts, had died it made sense. She died for her brother and in her fear landscape, she kills herself instead of her family. That moment shows that she is truly abnegation through and through and that she has the bravery to go and do that. It says a lot for her character and Tris's death is true to who she is shown to be throughout the book.
As for Tobias, my heart totally went out for him! Everything about Tobias just has you hooked in and then you realise, he's not as tough as he acts, he is capable of love and Tris is the one who changes him, and then she goes and dies. I was sort of angry about that because Four deserves better than that but the ending was bittersweet and I'm glad that there was no big, stupid cliffhanger, the ending stuck true to Tobias's character as well. He is brave and he has the courage to carry on with life without Tris and I admire him for that. I'm still so sad that the trilogy has ended :( can't wait for the movie!!!! :)
