Would you cut a complex joint if no one could see it and an easier option existed?

I built an apothecary chest using full-blind dovetails. There is great value in learning how things were done by the cabinetmakers. If you know how to do something right, you can then decide when to take shortcuts or apply modern sensibilities. If you start with the shortcuts, you will never have the option of doing it another way.

I would do it to learn how it's done, and to see how well I can do it. But, as far as using this joint routinley, I doubt I would.

I am looking for a way to cut dovetails not by hand and not by template - going to try the table saw and the band saw method to see which one I like. The problem with the band saw for me is that I have a 24 inch Laguna that does not like narrow blades. I ordered a blade from Forest custom designed for dovetails at a certain angle and for left tilt and will see how it goes. There looks like there is another option using angled ramps on a sliding jig that may compensate for the blade angle (angle on the top of the carbide).

I have been known to take on a challenge just to prove it to myself. However you can bet it wouldn't be cut by hand!
