It does impact the minds of the fence sitters who would like to go with the trend. Its like mob mentality working where you want to be with the bigger mob rather then the smaller. The current surveys show a similar trend of increasing positiveness towards non-congress parties.
The surveys must be made part of the election process with guidelines for such surveys and declaring the said results there off. Surveys are always indicative but not definitive when compared with the outcomes as there will be more issues that will be in the minds of the people when they go to the polls. One must not forget the change in voting patterns in 1991 before and after Rajiv Gandhi assassination during the middle of the polling phases. Congress benefited post his death then before his death.
Even last minute issues also matter in the final out come.

Opinion polls should be more transparent highlighting the population size, questions asked and other relevant data. Some guidelines should be laid for such surveys. Opinion polls which follow the guidelines are not to be banned.

The congress party led by the gandhi family is not comfortable with opinion polls, they r aware of the results in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Opinion polls r one of the involvement of the citizens during the elections
