    piki101,

You want to know why retail employees are being catered to? It's because nobody needs to be buying a computer, TV, clothes, toys, etc on Thanksgiving Day and it's just that simple. Hospital staff, come on now - use your head here, this is health care we are talking about! Some restaurants will not be open on Thanksgiving Day so not all of your waitresses will be working that day. Hotels? Really? What are you going to do? Throw everybody out for a day? All of those others you mentioned are different than retail and you know this.

My wife works at Staples and they are opening at 8:00 pm on Thanksgiving. While our family dislikes it I have an issue with the government regulating private business like this. The only way for this to stop is the employees express their concerns to corp. or to quit their job. Another option would be for customers to not shop on these days. Although that would be a pipe dream in this self serving society we live in. So, working in the retail world this should be expected. If you don't like it send a letter to corp. Have a petition spread throughout the stores or quit and find a job that is not open on holidays and/or talk to everyone you know and try to convince them to not shop on holidays. Remember why they call it black Friday.

we need to keep some family values for our kids, and tradition.we need our children to have the wonderful memories with there grandparents and cousins, brothers and sisters,I think working on a holiday is only for the owners of retail. I am an old fashioned Italian lady, who believes family first, memories are worth a million!!

Why are retail employees being catered to ? What about the other workers that have to work holidays? (hotel employees, waitresses, hospital staff, etc. )

I have worked in retail for many years and I don't know one person who likes working during the holidays so whoever said we do is crazy.
