He was the beat writer for the entire John Torchetti era and has witnessed Bob Miller singing country music in a Nashville honky-tonk bar. A native of Los Angeles, Rich has worked at the Daily News since 1999 and also serves as the paper's deputy sports editor.

    I don't think it's out of line for Blake to want more money and to go to another team, but what I do think is ridiculous is how he pretends that he's very interested and emotionally invested in this team. It's the charade that makes me most upset and I don't think he's made the sacrifices that warrant the honor of having your jersey retired. Lets not even talk about his first departure and the events that led up to that trade....

    Blake has left the Kings twice now for money. It is his right, and he earned it, but the last contract in LA represented an overpayment far above market value and was based in large part on his iconic status with the organization. It would have been a much more fitting and noble end to Blake's playing career to sign for the 4 million the Kings were offering, stay in LA and help rebuild, than play for San Jose for 5 million.
