Encourage more open play. PC requires ball to goes beyond the dotted line and with 4 defenders. It more dangerous with the drag flick in PC than hard hit to circle !

surely for credibility and continuity of fairness in the results for 2013/14 the own goal rule should run the course of the entire season to scrap it halfway through will give uneven results and will have cost clubs points and league placing

So we take then that it will revert back to the long corner rule? I thought the rule was very flimsy at best, we have a "D" in hockey and its possibly the greatest restriction / tactical challenge within the game, + to bring hockey down to the level of other sports such as football, is just plain silly, we changed the offside rule and made the game awesome (although i was great at beating the trap) hockey is meant to be difficult and tactically challenging that's why we play it right?

The own goal rule encouraged dangerous hitting into the goal, the rule about free hits in the attacking 23 was brought in to discourage dangerous hits into the D by having to move the ball 5 mtrs, I think the FIH have got themselves into a muddle, do they want hits smashed into the D or encourage creativity from open play.
