Having spent 32 years teaching in a Northern suburbs school working with fabulous teachers and principal class officers to cater to the needs of very disadvantaged students - socio-economic issues; dysfunctional families; very recently arrived migrants and refugees with various levels of education from their home country and whose parents lack education; trying to work with 'damaged' children from a variety of life experiences and dealing with students self harming and suiciding - and all the time longing for smaller class sizes and appropriate support so that these most disadvantaged students had the opportunity to develop their skills and abilities so that they do not fall into or continue the poverty cycle.
Would targeted money aimed at the most disadvantaged students give teachers a better chance to work with students and their families to provide educational opportunity?
How could it not help? How can we not demand adequate resources for the most needy young people in our systems?
