Canada Post announced it is phasing out residential door-to-door delivery to urban areas. What kind of an impact will this have on you?

It would give me a chance to get to know my neighbours better, beyond the ones who live in our immediate vicinity. An expanded 'neighbourhood watch' could be an asset.

Bad move! This is going to cause a serious problem for seniors and those with mobility issues. Bad enough that we have to trek to a convenience store during limited hours to get a package, and that all my magazines and catalogues arrive pre-read, but I have the option to go all-electronic for my bills and so on. Seniors or the disabled may not have that option. And they may not be able to get to a community mailbox.
    I anticipate a major outcry.
What Canada Post needs is not more cutting, it needs effective management. Put an elected official in charge and tie their salary to efficiency. They will need to make the public happy in order to keep their job, and they'll have to run things well to get paid.

I haven't had home delivery in 15 years. It's about time this two-tiered, antiquated system was restructured.

All my bank, credit card, phone (home + cell), internet, online shopping, etc., accounts have been online for MANY years now, switched to eStatements long time ago, all you need is a home computer, Internet account and an email address, you receive all statements via Internet and pay everything online. Except some government mail, Income Tax Returns for instance, no more need for any mail home delivery.

High paid unionized postal workers, salaries, pensions, other benefits employees in the private sector will never get, the main reason for Canada Post running a very in-red "profitability" business.

As always when government runs the show, they always lose money, OUR money, TAXPAYERS' money.

PRIVATIZE Canada Post, let the private sector run the mail delivery system.

I live in the city and there is no room on my busy street for anyone to stop and park and pick up mail from a community mail box. I cannot imagine how far away this community mail box would have to be for this to work. If you live in the suburbs where houses are big and street are winding then I know this is common. But in busy 'urban' areas where there is lots of traffic and homes are close together I think this is going to be a disaster.

The government has dragged it's heels for years enforcing the accessibility for persons with disabilities act. Now you're taking away our mail delivery… Not just speaking as a blind person, but how dare you!?
