I love my kitten, named Pocahontas after the princess. Tazzie has taught me love and a goldfish couldn't have given me the same joy.

I had a pet from the day I was born. My little dog Fifi thought she was my protector and followed me everywhere. I learned love from her and have received and given love with every pet since

Having pets as a child taught me love, which is much more basic than responsibility.

yes, my Dad taught me such much when we had our pony, goats, dogs, cats and kittens. He was someone who could teach you something and I was like a sponge. He had a great way of telling you and showing you about animals. He would tell me "That pony can't tell you I'm thirsty, you have to do it for him. He can't tell you I am hungry, my feet need to be cleaned out, I need fly spray. He is like a baby and you will be his Mom, always think like him. What does he need or want. It was truly a wonderful way of telling me about life. When you love someone or love your animals like family, you take care of them. The first thing he did when he woke up was take care of the horses, when he came home from work he headed for the barn and at night before bedtime he always took a walk to the barn and checked on our animals. I am so glad I had him for a Dad and a chance to have all that fun with him and my pony.

My first pet taught me not only responsiblity but also what friendship and undeniable love really are and how caring for another enriches your own life.
