Would you ask your Facebook friends for advice about choosing a college?

I don't think many people consider the choice of a college to be as important as those working in higher Ed. We can all rattle off a list of items that make our school special. I think many nowadays many are looking for a good price and that they would send their kid to Peanut Butter and Jelly College if they offered them a great price.

Do they teach English? Do they allow my kid to spend a semester in another English speaking county? Do the playing fields have green grass? Are the beds adequate for sleeping and other extracurricular activities? Are the showers good for cleaning up afterwards? Will their cell phone and tablet work anywhere on campus? Can we drive there and back in a day? Is there some chance of being employed after 4 years? If they can answer "yes" to most of these questions AND you will let them attend for close to nothing, Peanut Butter and Jelly College, here we come! (The opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of my employer, but they are informed by watching people choose colleges and a touch of cynicism.)
